Nilaja Sun spent eight years as a teaching artist in some of New York City's toughest schools. She brings those diverse, often startling experiences to The Herberger Theater's Stage West in 'No Child,' described by The New York Times as a 'lightning-paced, multi-character solo play.'
Directed by Hal Brooks, 'No Child,' which runs from April 23 through May 9, offers a glimpse of life in the New York City Public School System and its powerful lessons of struggle, hope and laughter.

New York's OBIE Award-winning Epic Theatre Ensemble today announced dates for the New York premiere of Passion Play by Sarah Ruhl (In The Next Room (or the vibrator play)) and directed by Mark Wing-Davey (The Singing Forest). The show will begin previews April 27 and run through May 30, 2010. Opening night is set for May 12, 2010. Passion Play will be performed in the site-specific environs of the Irondale Center, a converted Sunday School inside the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church (85 South Oxford Street) in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Casting for the 11-character play will be forthcoming.

While dazzling Key West audiences with her portrayal of Mrs. Muller in'Doubt' last season, Lela fell in love with Key West, and Key West took her into their collective hearts. After hearing of Lela's triumphant appearance at Gable Stage in 'No Child...,' Danny Weathers, artistic director for the Waterfront, scheduled the play for the '09/10 season and is thrilled to have Lela return in this amazing performance. A member of Actors Equity, Lela has won South Florida's prestigious Carbonell Award, and has appeared in such productions as 'In the Continuum,' 'Just A Kiss,' 'Intimate Apparel,' Seven Guitars,' 'Radio Golf' and the recent 'Naked Women Fully Clothed.'
