terraNOVA Collective to Honor Nilaja Sun at PS 122, 5/21

terraNOVA Collective will honor Nilaja Sun as the 2010 soloNOVA Artist of the Year on May 21 at 8pm in the Downstairs Theater at Performance Space 122 as part of the 7th Annual soloNOVA Arts Festival. Join us as we celebrate the career of Nilaja Sun as a performer and arts educator, featuring performances by students, clips from her Obie Award winning solo play, No Child... food and drink, and special surprises. Tickets to this extra special event are $30 and may be purchased in advance at www.ps122.org.

Actors Theatre Presents Nilaja Sun's NO CHILD 4/23-5/9

Nilaja Sun spent eight years as a teaching artist in some of New York City's toughest schools. She brings those diverse, often startling experiences to The Herberger Theater's Stage West in 'No Child,' described by The New York Times as a 'lightning-paced, multi-character solo play.' Directed by Hal Brooks, 'No Child,' which runs from April 23 through May 9, offers a glimpse of life in the New York City Public School System and its powerful lessons of struggle, hope and laughter.

Last night, Monday March 1, The Epic Theatre Ensemble held their 9th Annual Winter Gala (titled 'Spark'). This year's honoree was James Calleri, of Calleri Casting, for his longstanding support of adventurous independent Off-Broadway theatre and his helping spark the careers of many of America's finest actors.

Long Wharf Theatre will present No Child..., written and performed by Nilaja Sun, directed by Hal Brooks, March 17 through April 18, 2010 on Stage II. Peformance times are Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Wednesdays at 2 and 7 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 3p.m. and 8p.m., and Sundays at 2p.m. and 7p.m. Tickets are $30-$65.

Sarah Ruhl's PASSION PLAY to Open 5/12 at Epic Theatre Ensemble; Previews 4/27

New York's OBIE Award-winning Epic Theatre Ensemble today announced dates for the New York premiere of Passion Play by Sarah Ruhl (In The Next Room (or the vibrator play)) and directed by Mark Wing-Davey (The Singing Forest). The show will begin previews April 27 and run through May 30, 2010. Opening night is set for May 12, 2010. Passion Play will be performed in the site-specific environs of the Irondale Center, a converted Sunday School inside the Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church (85 South Oxford Street) in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Casting for the 11-character play will be forthcoming.

Lela Elam In 'No Child...' At The Waterfront

While dazzling Key West audiences with her portrayal of Mrs. Muller in'Doubt' last season, Lela fell in love with Key West, and Key West took her into their collective hearts. After hearing of Lela's triumphant appearance at Gable Stage in 'No Child...,' Danny Weathers, artistic director for the Waterfront, scheduled the play for the '09/10 season and is thrilled to have Lela return in this amazing performance. A member of Actors Equity, Lela has won South Florida's prestigious Carbonell Award, and has appeared in such productions as 'In the Continuum,' 'Just A Kiss,' 'Intimate Apparel,' Seven Guitars,' 'Radio Golf' and the recent 'Naked Women Fully Clothed.'

Long Wharf Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein and Managing Director Ray Cullom, invites local Non-Equity actors ages 18 to 35 toaudition for a devised adaptation of The Happy Prince, by Oscar Wilde, to be produced by the Next Stage Program, a program for early career theatre professionals, and directed by Associate Artistic Director Eric Ting.

70th Anniversary Season At The Waterfront Playhouse

The season begins with 'Twelve Angry Men' by Reginald Rose (Dec. 17 to Jan. 9), one of the greatest courtroom dramas ever written. Directed by Danny Weathers, it will feature a cast of Key West's finest actors. This gripping play examines a group of citizens deciding the guilt or innocence of a 16 year old boy who's accused of killing his father and will have you on the edge of your seat.
