In celebration of the Company's 40th Season, Shakespeare & Company presents a special August event series, Storytellers and Songwriters.

Senator Elizabeth Warren and the rest of the Opening NIght Audience at Shakespeare & Co's production of Cymbeline didn't have to fill the suggestion box labeled 'Tell Us Why You LIke Shakespeare'  in the lobby of the Tina Packer Playhouse with answers to that question.  They did it with their many standing ovations for the 9 actors and director Tina Packer at the conclusion of a magnificent and energetic performance of the complex plot driven play by Shakespeare.   There are a lot of exciting things going on at Shakespeare & Co. in Lenox MA. and artistic director Allyn Burrows in his toast at the jubilant after party stated 'first to the unknown and to the road ahead'!

This tale of love and passion, produced for the first time on the Company's Mainstage, runs in the Tina Packer Playhouse now through August 6, 2017. The production also marks a personal milestone for Packer, who, after opening her production of Cymbeline, will have directed all 37 plays in the Shakespeare canon. The Company's 40th Anniversary Season includes a roster of audience favorite artists, critics' top pick actors and a multitude of newcomers joining the Company. The season opens Memorial Day Weekend with Amy Herzog's 4000 Miles.

Shakespeare & Company's newly appointed Artistic Director Allyn Burrows announced the famed (and largest) Shakespeare Festivals in the country lineup for the 2017 Berkshire summer season at at a press event at Chez Josephine  in New York City and BroadwayWorld was there.  This season includes three Shakespeare plays: Cymbeline, The Tempest, and A Midsummer Night's Dream; plus two Edith Wharton comedies, Roman Fever and the newly adapted The Fullness of Life. Additional titles include the Obie Award winning 4,000 Miles by Amy Herzog; New York Drama Critics Circle and the Outer Critics Circle Recipient, Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage; and Tony Award Winner, God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza.

Actors' Shakespeare Project kicks off 2017 with Christopher Marlowe's complex Edward II, England's notorious king who forsakes everything for his public and private passions--only to meet horrific ends at the hands of his queen and his conniving noblemen. ASP is fortunate to bring both the talents of its Resident Acting Company and director David R. Gammons to navigate the intricate theatrical landscape of this historically controversial and rarely seen play. Experience Felix Mitterer's enthralling drama based on the life and death of Franz Jagerstatter (1907-1943), an Austrian farmer who refused to fight on behalf of Hitler because of his faith, morals and ideals. Mitterer depicts Franz, who was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2007, as a courageous but insecure human being - and not at all as a saint.

Previews are underway for Theatre for a New Audience's production of August Strindberg's THE FATHER in a new version by Scottish author David Greig commissioned by Theatre for a New Audience and performances start tonight, May 10, at 7:30pm for A DOLL'S HOUSE in an adaptation by Thornton Wilder not seen in New York since its Broadway premiere in 1937.

The Father and A Doll's House, Theatre for a New Audience's two plays in rotating repertory directed by Arin Arbus featuring Maggie Lacey and John Douglas Thompson at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place, have new opening dates: The Father, now in previews, will open Wednesday, May 25, at 7:30pm and A Doll's House will begin previews Tuesday, May 10, at 7:30pm for an opening Tuesday, May 24, at 7:30pm.

Theatre for a New Audience has announced complete casting for A DOLL'S HOUSE, in an adaptation by Thornton Wilder not seen in New York since its Broadway premiere in 1937, and August Strindberg's THE FATHER, in a new version by Scottish author David Greig (Strindberg's Creditors at BAM) commissioned by Theatre for a New Audience.

FirstWorks' 2015/16 Frontier Series concludes with the world premiere of an arresting new work by the Rhode Island-based Aurea Ensemble, a performance group with a superb string quartet at its heart. Aurea's 'CHROMATIC FANTASY: THE WORLD OF CIURLIONIS' will debut on Sunday, April 24 at 4 p.m. at the RISD Auditorium (7 Canal Walk, Providence River Greenway). The O'Shaughnessy's acclaimed Women of Substance series presents WOMEN OF WILL, a masterful summation of Shakespeare & Company's Founding Artistic Director Tina Packer's 40-plus years spent investigating all things Shakespeare. The tour-de-force performance will be on The O'Shaughnessy stage for one night only Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7:30 p.m.
