With the return of a sibling, the daily routine of life is shaken up in South Coast Repertory's world premiere of Five Mile Lake by Rachel Bonds. Bonds' new drama is one of three full productions for the 2014 Pacific Playwrights Festival. The show runs April 13-May 4, on the Julianne Argyros Stage. Daniella Topol directs. Montoya's writing is impassioned, witty and insightful and we can't help but come away knowing that we and our family history are part of the Night too. The play disappoints, however, when it allows leftist politics a soapbox.

Alky was written by Jerome Mc Donough more than 20 years ago and was intended for teenagers to perform in schools for other teenagers. In this version, created and directed by Ryan Duncan (Shrek, Altar Boyz), ALKY tells the tale of the evils of teen drinking told by twistedly funny adults who are 'under the influence'.

Directed by Kelly Robinson, ACROBAT has music by Steve Mackinnon, Marc Jordan and Amy Sky and a book by Quincy Long. Ian Eisendrath musical directs. Presentations on both days will take place at 2:00pm.

When last we left The Mint Theater, that extraordinary collective of theatre archivists that specialize in mounting first-class Off-Broadway productions of time-obscured plays by still-famous names, they were teaching many New Yorkers that Leo Tolstoy took a crack at playwrighting once with his grim drama, The Power of Darkness. Now they're surprising those who didn't know that even Ernest Hemingway was represented on Broadway once with The Fifth Column, which premiered at the Alvin in March of 1940 and logged in 87 performances.
