BroadwayWorld has just learned that the first preview of Broadway-bound ANASTASIA has been canceled due to technical problems. The show is still scheduled to open on Friday, May 27 and run through June 19, 2016.
Hartford Stage Managing Director Michael Stotts explains:
Hartford Stage presents the Broadway-bound musical ANASTASIA, starting tonight, May 12, for a run through June 19, 2016. The official opening will be Friday, May 27.
Anastasia will be led by Christy Altomare and Derek Klena. Klena and Altomare have worked together before in the revised production of CARRIE off-Broadway, directed by ALLEGIANCE's Stafford Arima. Today we're looking back on that production with a video of Altomare and Klena singing 'You Shine' from the CARRIE cast recording release event.
As BroadwayWorld previously reported, the new ANASTASIA musical is one step closer to its stage debut in Hartford this summer. According to the Hartford Courant, the cast will be led by Christy Altomare (Mamma Mia!) in the title role and Derek Klena (The Bridges of Madison County, Wicked) as Dmitry. Joining them as the Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna will be Mary Beth Peil, Manoel Felciano (Gleb), John Bolton (Vlad), Caroline O'Connor (Lily), and Nicole Scimeca (Young Anya).
Hartford Stage Artistic Director Darko Tresnjak has officially announced an electrifying cast of Broadway veterans for the premiere of the new musical ANASTASIA, which is inspired by the real life of Grand Duchess Anastasia Romanov and the enduring mystery of her true identity. ANASTASIA plays May 12 through June 12, 2016.

I hardly know where to begin in describing the beautiful, world-class, but dramatically uneven production of the beloved and immortal 'The Sound of Music' that opened at the Civic Opera House over the weekend. All the resources of Lyric Opera of Chicago have been brought to bear on a brand-new production of a title that is known throughout the world, and the result is occasionally thrilling--a feast for the eyes, and usually one for the ears as well.
