CULTUREMART Festival Line-Up Announced

The OBIE-winning HERE is thrilled to announce its annual CULTUREMART festival line-up. Running January 7 - 23, CULTUREMART makes process the focus, as the festival presents work in development from the exciting roster of the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). This year's CULTUREMART slate features twelve multidisciplinary works that push the boundaries of dance, theater, music, new media, puppetry and visual art resulting in adventurous new forms. CULTUREMART 2011 takes place in both of HERE's theaters, the Mainstage and the Dorothy B. Williams Theater.

Nominations Announced for 2010 Hewes Design Awards

Nine theater artists will be honored by the Henry Hewes Design Awards Committee during the presentation of its 46th Annual Awards in a luncheon ceremony this fall. Eighty-one theater artists were nominated for outstanding artistry in 46 productions presented during the 2009-2010 New York theater season. HERE Arts Center proudly brings to life SOUNDING, a new seven-character play driven by original text and lyrics, along with cinematic video and a unique soundscape influenced by the music of Patti Smith, Bartok and Portishead. Written by Jennifer Gibbs and directed by Kristin Marting, this production runs Wednesday, February 17- Saturday, March 13 at HERE Arts Center. Official Opening Night is set for Saturday, February 20 at 8:30 PM.

Danspace Project Hosts 'Not About Romanian Cinema: POONARC' 6/4-13 At St. Marks

Danspace Project will present Yoshiko Chuma and The School of Hard Knocks/ROOT CULTURE in the debut of 'Not About Romanian Cinema: POONARC' from June 4 to 13, 2009 as part of its City/Dans series. This next installment in Chuma's ten year project, 'A Page Out of Order' (culminating in 2011), features artists of all disciplines from Japan, Romania and the USA. The word 'POONARC' in the title is an acronym for 'Page Out of Order Not About Romanian Cinema.'
