The Apollo Theater today announced that it will bring to its iconic stage two new performances that continue its commitment to articulating and projecting the African American narrative through arts and culture. In October 2018, The Apollo will celebrate the 50th anniversary of "Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud," the Godfather of Soul James Brown's seminal Black Power anthem, with the premiere of Say It Loud - I'm Black and I'm Proud at 50 under the musical direction of six-time GRAMMY®- Award-winner Christian McBride. In May of 2019, in a co-production between The Apollo, Baltimore Center Stage, and Mosaic Theater, Kelvin Roston Jr. will pay homage to Donny Hathaway in the New York premiere of the one man play Twisted Melodies. Tickets for both productions will go on sale July 1st.

The playwright far better known for his searing and foul-mouthed adult dramas has, indeed, created a divinely silly, family-friendly, retro-sci-fi romp called "The Revenge of the Space Pandas or Binky Rudich and the Two-Speed Clock", which will be presented for eight performances only July 12-22 at Catskill's Bridge Street Theatre.

The one-night-only benefit performance and party featured Honorary Chair Jussie Smollett, who stars on Fox's Empire and recently released his debut album, Sum of My Music. The evening honored Vikas Kapoor and Ailey Trustee Jaishri Kapoor for their remarkable support of the Ailey organization and their dedication to Ailey's educational initiatives. Popular New York street artist Lady K-Fever will join more than 100 NYC public school students in the Bronx portion of what is one of the largest public displays of student art in New York City. LEAP's Rising Voices: Bronx Student Public Art Exhibition will be held Tuesday, June 19, at Claremont Park, 3:30 pm to 5 pm. The event location is in the northern end of Claremont Park, just south of the park house and gazebo. Students from six Bronx classes in three schools will display ordinary cafeteria tables turned into social justice murals advocating for issues of concern to the students.
