SoBe Arts Presents The World Premiere Of HAMLET Soundtheater/Opera

SoBe Institute of the Arts presents the World Premiere of Carson Kievman's HAMLET Soundtheater/Opera in the Little Stage Theater on Miami Beach. This provocative, sophisticated, and radically re-imagined musical setting of Shakespeare's masterpiece was the final commission by legendary producer Joseph Papp ("A Chorus Line," "Hair," etc.) for the New York Shakespeare Festival / Public Theater. Due to Papp's tragic passing soon after the work was completed, HAMLET remained unperformed, until now.

THE OUTGOING TIDE Opens At Philadelphia Theatre Company 3/23-4/22

Philadelphia Theatre Company will present the second production and East Coast premiere of Barrymore Award-winning playwright Bruce Graham's newest play The Outgoing Tide, running March 23-April 22 at PTC's home at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets).

Culture Project Presents 'And God Created Great Whales,' Beginning 2/7

Now considered a prominent venue for award winning theatre, Culture Project had its humble beginnings in a former piano manufacturing factory on East 91st Street. It then moved to a lumberyard at 45 Bleecker Street which it converted into a two-theater performing arts center with Bombitty of Errors and And God Created Great Whales as its initial attractions. Now Culture Project has officially returned to 45 Bleecker making it its permanent home, and will present And God Created Great Whales, the innovative piece that launched the Culture Project into prominence over a decade ago.

Les Waters Bids Berkley Rep Adieu With Production of RED, 3/22 - 4/29

The Broadway play Red comes to Berkeley Repertory Theatre in March, staged as a valedictory by Obie Award-winner Les Waters as he departs the Bay Area to take the reins at Actors Theatre of Louisville. John Logan, the Oscar-nominated author of Aviator and Gladiator, won Tony and Drama Desk Awards for this feverish 90-minute drama. Now Waters and two exceptional actors bring this powerful play to local audiences. Red begins previews on the intimate Thrust Stage on March 16, opens March 22, and runs through April 29.

John Tartaglia- Helmed BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE Reading in the Works

As BroadwayWorld previously announced, Gerald Goehring, Michael F. Mitri and Dorothy Berloni are developing BECAUSE OF WINN-DIXIE, a new Broadway musical based on the popular 2000 novel by Kate DeCamillo. Casting for a developmental reading is currently underway and set to take place in early March. This is set to be followed by an out of town engagement and Broadway production, the timing of which will be confirmed at a later date.

International City Theatre Opens GOD OF CARNAGE, 1/27

Bad behavior has never been so much fun. Artistic director caryn desai [sic] jump starts International City Theatre's 27th season at the helm of Yasmina Reza's scathingly funny, Tony Award-winning God of Carnage. The limited, four-week engagement runs January 27-February 19, with low-priced previews on January 24, 25 and 26. John Cullum, Julie Halston Honored At T. Schreiber Studio Alumni Celebration

T. Schreiber Studio and Theatre (Terry Schreiber and Peter Jensen, Co-Artistic Directors) announced that it will host an Alumni Celebration, commemorating the grand opening of the studio's new expanded space and offering an alumni tribute to the working actor as well as to the late playwright John Bishop, on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at its Chelsea home (151 West 26th Street, 7th Floor).
