New York International Fringe Festival News

Adirondack Theatre Festival is presenting Knights of the Sales Office as part of its 23rd summer season of professional theater.

The YALE INSTITUTE FOR MUSIC THEATRE (Mark Brokaw, Artistic Director) announces the creative teams and casting for the two original book musicals, COWBOY BOB, created by Molly Beach Murphy, Jeanna Phillips, and Annie Tippe, book by Molly Beach Murphy, music and lyrics by Jeanna Phillips; and GUMBO, music by Brett Macias and book and lyrics by Christina Quintana, conceived by Brett Macias and Christina Quintana, which are being developed in an intensive two-week summer lab at Yale School of Drama, June 13-24. Scott Frankel is the Artistic Advisor, and Catherine Sheehy is the resident Dramaturg for this year's Institute, which culminates with open rehearsal readings of each project, presented as part of New Haven's International Festival of Arts & Ideas on June 23 and 24.

Yonder Window Theatre Company and Parity Productions have announced that writer/performer Romy Nordlinger's Places is among the selected performances for this year's East to Edinburgh at 59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director). Places will play 6 performances in July before traveling to Edinburgh, Scotland for the 2017 Fringe Festival where it will have 25 performances over the month of August (4th - 27th).  

New Line Theatre, "the bad boy of musical theatre," announces its 27th season of adult, alternative musical theatre, including the St. Louis premiere of the four-woman rock opera LIZZIE, a very different take on the Lizzie Borden legend, running Sept. 28-Oct. 21, 2017; followed by Cole Porter's satiric masterpiece ANYTHING GOES, running March 1-24, 2018; and the St. Louis premiere of the world's first bio-historical musical comedy, YEAST NATION, written by the Urinetown team, running May 31-June 23, 2018. All New Line's mainstage shows will be in the company's home, the Marcelle Theater, in Grand Center, St. Louis' arts district.

FRIGID New York @ Horse Trade in association with Project Y Theatre Company will present the World Premiere of Trump Lear, written and performed by David Carl and directed by Michole Biancosino, July 7-August 12 at UNDER St. Marks.

Apples & Pears, LLC will present an invitational reading of the haunting new drama THE REPORT in London next Tuesday, June 20 at 2 pm. Based on the novel by Jessica Francis Kane, THE REPORT was adapted by Martin Casella, whose THE IRISH CURSE had a highly acclaimed Off-Broadway run following a London Fringe production at The Stag.

New Freedom Theatre continues their 50th Year with the award winning new work, Mother Emanuel: An American Musical Play - Inspired By the Life and Legacy of the Emanuel Nine, running June 14-25th at Freedom Theatre (1346 N. Broad Street).

Guerrilla Broadway LLC has confirmed that multi-platinum, 80's pop vocalist Gioia Bruno is slated to join RuPaul's Drag Race alumni in the cast of James St. James' new musical.

Experimental theatre artist Amy Rox Surratt, and a supporting ensemble, create fictionally famous reality TV child star 'Amy Surratt.' At home, things have been heading South for a while. Now, 'Amy' investigates her genuine Appalachian roots and struggles to come back to something she never really had - taking the audience to hell in a hand basket with her. The result is a surreal Appalachian love letter to historical and personal traumas.

Portland Center Stage at The Armory has selected the four playwrights who develop new plays in Portland during the 19th annual JAW: A Playwrights Festival.

LOFT ENSEMBLE announces additional performances of their world premiere production of PETER SCHULYER's SCHOOL FOR WAYWARD GIRLS. Performances have been extended through June 6th.

'Faust 3: The Turd Coming, or The Fart of the Deal' by Paul David Young, a political satire of the Trump fiasco performed by an ensemble of four clowns, will have its world premiere June 11 to 26 in The Meeting Room of Judson Memorial Church, 55 Washington Square South, presented by Skylight Productions.  Augustus Heagerty directs.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, National New Play Network, The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, and Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation jointly announce the selection of five directors from a nationwide pool of applicants for the 2017 National Directors Fellowship: Sherri Eden Barber

Seth Sikes will return to Provincetown as part of the 2017 Broadway Series season at The Crown & Anchor's Paramount Theatre. Sikes is one of New York's best known nightclub performers and his debut at the Paramount last year sold-out as has each of his appearances at Feinstein's/54 Below in New York.

An acclaimed play portraying the complex life of a CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), makes its New Jersey premiere next week at Merseles Studios in Jersey City as part of the Disruption series presented by Jersey City Theater Center (JCTC).

Prismal Productions has announced that HER OPPONENT, a new event that re-stages verbatim excerpts from three of 2016's deeply contentious presidential debates (replicating the actual text, gestures, and movements of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump with gender-reversed casting) will end its run in Times Square at The Theater Center, 1627 Broadway, on May 24.
