Culture Project has announced that Emancipate, a project of its annual Women Center Stage series, will bring a group of female musicians (who are also activists in their communities) to New Orleans to meet with activists doing rebuilding work in New Orleans, and bring their stories to a national audience. The artists will be in New Orleans March 2-6, 2008, and will create new songs to premiere at Culture Project's 2008 festival this spring.
Amas Musical Theatre will celebrate its 39th year with a Gala evening on Monday, March 31 featuring a special 'Blast from the Past' concert performance of Mama, I Want to Sing, a star-studded concert of the gospel, pop, and rhythm and blues hit musical that began at Amas in the early nineteen eighties. The Amas Gala will also honor award winning actress Phylicia Rashad and PricewaterhouseCoopers with 'The Rosie Award', named for Amas Founder Rosetta LeNoire.

An apocalyptic comedy by an intriguing new playwright, Tragedy makes its American premiere as part of Berkeley Rep's 40th birthday party, directed by Obie Award-winner Les Waters. Presented on the intimate Thrust Stage, Tragedy begins previews on March 14, opens March 19, and closes April 13, 2008.
