Harpsichordist Jory Vinikour, Chicago Philharmonic Headline World-Premiere Release Of Ned Rorem's 'Concertino Da Camera'

Harpsichordist Jory Vinikour, a two-time Grammy nominee, and the Chicago Philharmonic, a professional, musician-governed ensemble now in its 30th season, headline the new Cedille Records album 20th Century Harpsichord Concertos, featuring the first professional recording and first commercial release of Ned Rorem's neoclassical 1946 Concertino da Camera.

Collaborative Arts Institute Of Chicago Announces 2019/2020 Season

Collaborative Arts Institute of Chicago (CAIC) announces the programming for its 2019-2020 season. CAIC's 19/20 season will open with the organization's 8th annual vocal chamber music festival, the Collaborative Works Festival (September 5-8, 2019), which will focus on the songs of living composers. The organization also continues its popular Lieder Lounge series of vocal recitals: Tenor Jonathan Johnson and pianist Craig Terry headline the Winter Lieder Lounge, and Grammy Award winning mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor and Chicago-based pianist Brian Locke are featured in the Spring installment. Expanded educational offerings next season include three events: two master classes led by singing expert Lynn Eustis and Ryan Opera Center Music Director Craig Terry, and a three-day workshop on the art of Polish song, led by pianist Michael Pecak.

Winners Announced For the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra's National Young Composers Competition

For the third year, The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) conducted a nationwide search to name the three winners in the PYO Young Composers Competition. All participants submitted original orchestral scores. The winners were selected by PYO's music director, Maestro Louis Scaglione, and the director of the Young Composers Competition, Sheridan Seyfried, who is a Philadelphia-based composer, a PYO alumnus and a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Richard Danielpour, Jennifer Higdon and Ned Rorem.

Chanticleer Performs One Night Only At The Kennedy Center On April 2, 2019

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Composer in Residence Mason Bates continue the 2018-2019 season of their immersive new-music series, KC Jukebox, with the renowned male a cappella groupChanticleer on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in the Family Theater. The penultimate program of the KC Jukebox season will feature the music by Robert Shaw, Kurt Weill, Steven Stucky, Ned Rorem, and Queen's Freddie Mercury-all anchored by Bates's 30-minute song cycle, Sirens.

Ravinia's Steans Music Institute Announces Bridges Competition

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ravinia's Steans Music Institute (RSMI) last summer, Ravinia launched a competition for composers who could fuse the worlds of jazz and classical music. Due to its success, Ravinia, with the support of DownBeat magazine, is now calling for submissions to the second annual "Bridges" international jazz and classical fusion composition competition, overseen by legendary pianist Billy Childs and double-bassist Rufus Reid, who co-direct the RSMI Jazz Program. Up to three winners will receive the David Baker Prize, named in recognition of the first RSMI Jazz director. The prize includes $2,500 in cash plus the world-premiere performance of the winning piece during Ravinia's 2019 season.

Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Continues Successful Young Composers Competition In 2018-2019 Season

The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) has opened another year of opportunity for talented young composers to participate in the Third Annual Young Composers Competition for the 2018-2019 season. PYO is calling on gifted composers, between the ages of 18 to 24, to submit an original orchestral piece. The winner will receive the honor of having the composition performed by the highly esteemed Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and recorded for a possible future broadcast on WRTI.

The concert features the world premiere of the clarinet, violin and piano version of 'Pas de Trois' and a performance of 'Four Colors', composed for clarinetist Thomas Piercy, a long-time champion of Rorem's music. The concert also features three pieces composed for Thomas Piercy as Rorem birthday celebration music by former students of Rorem: Daron Hagen, Jennifer Higdon, and Troy Peters. Joining Piercy in the concert are violinist Eiko Kano and composer/pianist Chen Yihan.

Kennedy Center Announces 2019 DIRECT CURRENT Programs

DIRECT CURRENT, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts's two-week celebration of contemporary culture, returns for a second season. Training its focus on new works, interdisciplinary creations in which artistic worlds collide, and creative responses to topical concerns, the 2019 spring immersion showcases some of the most provocative, original, and pioneering voices in the arts today. DIRECT CURRENT takes place on March 25-April 7 at the Kennedy Center and beyond, extending throughout the District of Columbia through collaborations with a number of alternative venues, to expand the growing audience for contemporary culture in the nation's capital.
