Village Theatre Kidstage is proud to announce its spring line-up of exploratory and musical theatre classes, along with Spring Break camps for students of all ages. Some of these classes include ?Story Explorers? for children as young as Pre-K, a wide variety of dance classes?including yoga ballet and tap?and a ?Broadway Foundations? class that focuses its work around the music in the hit new musical Wicked. The majority of these classes begin in mid-April. Classes range from $145-$250 and parents can receive a 10 percent discount when registering more than one student from the same family or when registering for more than one class. When Janet Seto, Principal of La Quinta Middle School (78-900 Avenue 50, La Quinta, CA 92253), contacted the a multi-talented actress, talk show host, performer, recording artist, author, Broadway veteran and Smithsonian inductee, Florence Henderson with a request to address students at La Quinta Middle School with a motivational speech inspiring them to reach their goals, America's favorite mom gladly said yes. Expecting a moderate turn out, Ms. Henderson was overwhelmed to see a response of almost 700 to hear her speak. The assembly had to be moved outdoors to accomodate the crowd.

Philadelphia Orchestra Chief Conductor and Artistic Adviser Charles Dutoit leads the Orchestra in three concerts in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center celebrating the influence of African-American culture on classical music (March 12-14). The program features Milhaud's jazz-inspired The Creation of the World; George Walker's 1996 Pulitzer Prize-winning work Lilacs for voice and orchestra, with tenor Russell Thomas as soloist in its first Philadelphia Orchestra performances; Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer, a work for which the late, great contralto Marian Anderson was known, with Philadelphia-native bass-baritone Eric Owens as soloist; and Dvoř?k's Symphony No. 9 in E minor ('From the New World').

If you or anyone you know is graduating from high school this year, consider applying for Pequana Playhouse's Lynn Hilbrand Memorial Scholarship. One $750 scholarship will be awarded to a 2009 graduating senior from the Lake of the Woods area. Students from Lake of the Woods High School, Rainy River High School and Indus High School, as well as area home-schooled students, are welcome to apply. Applications from students who are active in the arts, especially in Pequana-sponsored events, will be weighted favorably, but all seniors are welcome to apply.
