With a mission to produce one new play by each of its six members, 6NewPlays officially closes up shop this fall with WAKEFIELD by Brian Thorstenson. Inspired by Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story of the same name, Wakefield starts at the moment Hawthorne's story ends, when the husband Henry Wakefield returns home after 20 years. Veteran actor Anne Darragh plays Sophia, Henry's wife, alongside Thorstenson as Henry. Erin Mei-Ling Stuart co-directs. Wakefield runs October 5 - 14 at Studio 210 in the Mission. Tickets, $20 - $25, will go on sale in August.

Black and Brown Theatre, a local professional theatre for artists of color, is excited to celebrate their second season theme: Classics in Color. On Saturday April 28th, 2018, Black and Brown Theatre will present the world premiere of their adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter. Little Edie & The Marble Faun will be presented by Off-Broadway's Saint Luke's 2nd Monday Play Reading Series as part of their 2017-2018 season. Little Edie & The Marble Faun is a mash-up of Grey Gardens, the documentary about the reclusive, half-mad relatives of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (Little Edie, and her mother, Big Edie), who live in a decrepit, raccoon-infested mansion, and Nathaniel Hawthorne's last novel, The Marble Faun, a name Little Edie used to refer to her handyman, Jerry. In the Hawthorne novel, we meet Miriam, Donatello, and a stranger, who threatens their happy existence with a secret from Miriam's past.
