NYMF's OPEN THE DARK DOOR Completes Casting

Full casting has been announced for OPEN THE DARK DOOR, an indie rock musical by David Lefort Nugent that confronts the modern American justice system. Starring in the production at the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival are Broadway's Mary Ellen Ashley (Annie Get Your Gun), Paul Kandel (Tommy, Titanic, Jesus Christ Superstar), Laura Jordan (Cry Baby), and Andrew McGinn (Coast of Utopia). The production will feature direction from Susanna Gellert (Fugue States at PS 122) and runs from October 8th to October 17th at the American Theatre of Actors.

NYMF's HURRICANE Sold Out, Extends

The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) and Kellner-Avery Productions announce the addition of 2 performances to the World Premiere production of HURRICANE. This epic new musical takes an all-but-forgotten moment in history and brings it to life with the largest cast in NYMF history, 30 in all. Directed by Michael Bush, HURICANE features a book by Michael Holland and Eric Bernat, and music and lyrics by Michael Holland. After selling out its initial run, two performances have been added: Fri. Oct. 9 at 5pm and Tues. Oct. 13 at 5pm. A complete schedule is below.

From the creators of the Broadway-bound White Noise, which was a hit at NYMF in 2006, Street Lights features a groundbreaking score that uses modern hip hop, R&B and pop to tell a timeless story in the musical language of today's youth, while creating a bridge to earlier generations by incorporating samples of old civil rights anthems within the modern songs and beats. Ryan J. Davis directs a cast of 14 including Carla Duren* (Bway: 110 in the Shade, Hairspray),Chad Carstarphen (Off-Bway: The Conscientious Objector), Miguel Jarquin-Moreland*, Kevin Curtis* (NYMF: Twilight in Manchego, Maccabeat), Gayle Turner* (Bway: The Wiz), Jim Stanek* (Bway: Story of My Life, Lestat, Little Women), Virginia Cavaliere (Regional: High School Musical), Joy Lynn Matthews* (Bway: The Music Man; Marie Christine), Roberto Araujo, Claudeen Benoit, Geri Brown, Jay Garcia*(Off-Bway: Altar Boyz), Ejyp Johnson, and Melissa Joyner all of whom are dedicated to supporting new musicals and whose credits encompass every major regional theater in the country, along with significant achievements in film, television and cabaret. Performances will be held at American Theatre for Actors (Chernuchin), 314 West 54th Street, (bet. 8th & 9th Avenues) in New York City from October 13th-18th.
