Amnesty International Hosts Star-Studded Write For Rights Event

This weekend, human rights organization Amnesty International USA in partnership with live music events startup Sofar Sounds hosted a powerful evening of collective action along with an intimate concert experience featuring stripped down performances by singer/songwriter and activist Lauren Jauregui and Roc Nation recording artist Victory Boyd all in a surprise popup at General Assembly in the Flatiron neighborhood of New York City. The event, Write for Rights, is aimed at securing justice for eleven women human rights defenders under threat and in need of urgent help as a result of speaking out and taking action against various human rights abuses (learn more about these women by clicking here).

A World in Trance, now in its fifth edition, has been host to some of the world's most captivating music, bringing people together in search of enlightenment and spirituality. This year's festival features virtuoso guitarist Derek Gripper, who masterfully interprets the hypnotic sounds of the West African kora (21-string harp-lute) on solo guitar (Mar 23); the intoxicating sounds of Bachir Attar and Mustapha Attar of the Master Musicians of Jajouka in a riveting meeting with American musicians Ned Rothenberg, Arrington de Dionysio and Ben Bennett (Mar 30); the classical music of India with Jayanthi Kumaresh, one of the world's leading veena (lute) players, accompanied by percussionists K U Jayachandra Rao and Pramath Kira (Apr 12); and ecstatic interpretations of Sufi qawwali with Pakistan's Hamza Akram Qawwal & Brothers (Apr 13).

'The Moors', a thought-provoking new play from Two Gents Productions, created in association with Tara Arts, will premiere on 7 November 2018 at Tara Theatre, London. The play promises to be an engaging and inclusive theatre experience for audiences throughout its three week run up to 24 November.

San Francisco Opera Center Announces 2019 Adler Fellows

San Francisco Opera Center Director Sheri Greenawald today announced the 12 recipients of the 2019 Adler Fellowship. Selected from participants of the Merola Opera Program, the ten singers and two pianist/apprentice coaches begin their fellowships in January 2019. The multi-year performance-oriented residency offers advanced young artists intensive individual training, coaching and professional seminars, as well as a wide range of performance opportunities. Since its inception in 1977, the prestigious fellowship has nurtured the development of more than 180 young artists, introducing many budding stars to the international opera stage and launching active careers throughout the world as performers, production artists, arts professionals and educators.

Matthew Michael Carnahan Makes His Directorial Debut with MOSUL

The new feature film 'Mosul,' written and directed by Matthew Michael Carnahan, is now in post-production in Los Angeles.  Shot in secret this past spring on location in Morocco, “Mosul,” explores the true story of an elite police unit made up almost entirely of native sons of Mosul who fought to liberate the city from six thousand ISIS militants. “Mosul” is based on an extraordinary feat of journalism by Luke Mogelson in The New Yorker in which he embedded with the unit for two months and documented the SWAT team's desperate fight, block by block, to destroy ISIS.  Joe and Anthony Russo's AGBO and Condé Nast Entertainment shot the film in Marrakech, Morocco and have been editing in Los Angeles at AGBO.  The film delivers scope, action and quality on par with the best of Hollywood.  Shot by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Mauro Fiore, “Mosul” is beautiful, epic and impossibly tense.

Mr. Ciobanu was awarded the Second Prize and Audience Favorite Prize at the 2017 Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition in Tel-Aviv, Israel; his program will include works by Enescu, Mussorgsky, Scriabin, and Stravinsky.

Mariah Carey Announces Title and Release Date for New Album

Mariah Carey took to social media to announce the title and release date of her new album. In her Twitter post, she announces the title is 'Caution' and it will be released on November 16th. This is Carey's 15th studio album.
