Lincoln Center Theater has announced two new upcoming productions: SHOWS FOR DAYS, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane, to be directed by Jerry Zaks; and the LCT3 production of PRELUDES, a new musical by Dave Malloy, to be directed by Rachel Chavkin. SHOWS FOR DAYS, marks the return of both playwright Douglas Carter Beane (The Nance) and director Jerry Zaks (The House of Blue Leaves, Anything Goes, Six Degrees of Separation) to Lincoln Center Theater, will begin previews Thursday, June 4 and open on Monday, June 29 at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater. PRELUDES, the first musical to be produced by LCT3 in the Claire Tow Theater, will run from Saturday, May 23 through Sunday, July 19. Opening night is Monday, June 15.
The Flea presents the World Premiere of I SEE YOU by Kate Robin. This romantic comedy will be directed by Flea Artistic Director Jim Simpson. Previews of this limited run Off-Broadway engagement begin November 7 with opening slated for Sunday, November 16.
The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) announces this season's Joe A. Callaway Award winners for Direction and Choreography from more than 200 eligible productions in the 2013-2014 New York City theatre season. This year's awards will be presented to John Rando for his direction of The Heir Apparent, produced by Classic Stage Company, and Martha Clarke for her choreography of Cheri, produced by Signature Theatre.
Studio 42's annual reading series returns this fall with four new Unproducible works. The first reading, The Doppelganger by Matthew-Lee Erlbach (Eager to Lose) and directed by Studio 42 Artistic Director Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God), will take place October 5th at A.R.T/NY. Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts has announced casting for its ESPA Drills Reading Series this August. ESPA Drills is an annual new play development program providing staged readings to four playwrights. The plays are workshopped under the guidance of the ESPA staff and will be presented before an audience of industry peers Off-Broadway at The Duke on 42nd Street.
Melissa Schlachtmeyer, a costume designer for theater, dance and opera, passed away Wednesday August 6th while traveling in Florence, Italy. She was 41. The cause was complications from breast cancer.
Lincoln Center Theater has announced that Ernest Abuba, Joel de la Fuente, Tsering Dorjee, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Takemi Kitamura, James Saito, Jon Norman Schneider, and Nami Yamamoto will comprise the cast of its upcoming production of Sarah Ruhl's new play THE OLDEST BOY. The play, to be directed by Rebecca Taichman, will begin previews Thursday, October 9 and open on Monday, November 3 in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater (150 West 65 Street).
The Bushwick Starr and Studio 42 will present the world premiere production of Important Hats of the Twentieth Century by Nick Jones (Emmy-nominated for Orange is the New Black, Trevor), directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God, Trevor).The production will run from October 7th through 31st, 2015, at The Bushwick Starr. The cast and full creative team will be announced in the spring of 2015.
