John Heffernan, Joanna Scanlan Join Cast of BBC and Netflix's DRACULA

It was announced today that John Heffernan (Collateral, The Crown), Joanna Scanlan (Hold The Sunset, No Offence), Dolly Wells (Can You Ever Forgive Me, 45 Years), Morfydd Clark (His Dark Materials, Patrick Melrose), Lujza Richter (Phantom Thread) and series co-writer Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who, Sherlock) have joined the cast of Dracula.

The cast for Gary Owen's new version of The Cherry Orchard, which transfers the action to early 1980s Pembrokeshire, will feature a broad range of talents from stage and screen including a number of actors from Wales. The production will run from 13-28 October 2017 at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff.

Gender-blind casting has arrived and we'd better get used to it. Correction: it seems we are getting used to it, viz the imminent revival of the Donmar's all-female Shakespeare trilogy. So the headline story of this Old Vic production is not that a woman is taking on the Everest north-face of a role formerly reserved for mature alpha males of the acting profession. The headline story of Glenda Jackson's Lear is that this Lear is magnificent, and its magnificence emanates directly from the text.
