Anne Mirvish Dies at 94
Anne Lazare Mirvish, wife of late theatre impressario "Honest" Ed Mirvish, has died at age 94.
Mirvish passed away at approximately 1:30 PM this afternoon at her home surrounded by family, a spokesperson from Mirvish productions confirmed.
Ed Mirvish was known throughout Toronto not just for his famous discount store 'Honest Ed's', but for his contribution to the theatre community which began when he purchased The Royal Alexandra Theatre in 1962. He was responsible for building the Princess of Wales Theatre on King Street, and today the Mirvish family also own The Ed Mirvish Theatre (formerly The Canon Theatre) and The Panasonic Theatre.
Anne was said to have inspired her husband's love of the theatre and of the visual arts. That love lives on through son David, who just this week announced additions to their milestone 50th Anniversary Season, their largest season ever. Coverage from the 50th Season Announcement as well a look back at the past fifty years of Mirvish Productions can be found on BWW here: /toronto/article/STAGE-TUBE-Mirvish-Celebrates-50-Years-of-Toronto-Theatre-20130919
The funeral will be on Monday September 23rd, at Holy Blossom Temple, 1950 Bathurst Street, Toronto.
