Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) welcomes New York Fringe Outstanding Solo Performance Award-winner David Carl and his hilarious Gary Busey's One-Man Hamlet as part of the yearlong Shakespeare 400 Chicago celebration. Co-created by Carl and director Michole Biancosino, Gary Busey's One-Man Hamlet depicts Shakespeare's Hamlet as one imagines Busey might-unhinged and full of detours to his movies and personal grievances. Deemed a "deliciously deranged… head-spinning performance" by The New York Times, this offbeat spectacle is featured in the theater Upstairs at Chicago Shakespeare for only eight performances, July 12-17, 2016.

Due to popular demand for summer action-movie/Shakespeare mash-ups, Gary Busey's One-Man Hamlet as Performed by David Carl extends its critically acclaimed run into June and July with five additional performances 10:30 p.m. Saturdays June 4 & 25; 9 p.m. Thursday, June 30 & Saturdays, July 9 & July 30. The acclaimed production heads to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in mid-July for the Shakespeare 400 celebrations.  

In 400 years of Shakespeare, there's never been a night of Bard on the boards quite like 'Gary Busey's One-Man Hamlet as Performed by David Carl.' In honor of William Shakespeare's birthday, two special matinee performances have been added on Saturday, April 23 at 3:00p.m. and Sunday, April 24 at 4:30p.m. Yes, there will be cake.

Now in it's seventh season, the Obie Award winning The Fire This Time Festival is pleased to announce the panelists for their So You Want to Direct? For the fifth year in a row Horse Trade Theater Group will present The Fire This Time Festival (TFTT), providing a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African-American descent to explore new voices, styles, and challenging new directions for 21st century performing arts in order to move beyond common misconceptions of what's possible in 'black theater.'
