BWW Reviews: LITTLE WOMEN: THE MUSICAL Is Astonishing at Avon Players

Now on stage at Avon Players is the musical adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, a parable of the ideal family in Civil War era Boston. The musical follows the book fairly closely, so if you are familiar with the book, you know the play. Little Women was one of the first books that many girls read as a child and has always held a special place in their hearts.

A Shakespearean mash-up of comic proportions! Playwright Aden Ross (2006's sold-out run of AMERIKA) has thrown tidbits of MACBETH, TWELFTH NIGHT, OTHELLO, HAMLET, KING LEAR and THE MERCHANT OF VENICE into a theatrical blender. Lady Macbeth and her sister, Queen Gertrude of Denmark, have both been widowed recently under suspicious circumstances.

Matthew Ivan Bennett's most personal play to date explores the relationship between two estranged sisters (played by April Fossen and Christy Summerhays) and their late mother (played by Teresa Sanderson, who also portrays several other characters) in this complex quest for hope and healing.
