Broadway Theatre Project (BTP) will feature a slate of prolific performers, directors, choreographers, composers, casting agents and other professionals from Broadway and Hollywood as part of the Project's roster of Teaching Faculty for its 2014 session, as announced today by the BTP's Artistic Directors Debra McWaters and Darren Gibson.
What do you get when an engaged couple on the brink of getting married runs out of money to accommodate its extravagant wedding plans, and to fix this problem decides to sell cocaine to an addict in a sleazy hotel room? Wait, that's not all. The addict then inexplicably kills himself and leaves behind a mess that has far more dire consequences than the choice to sell cocaine to fund a wedding that wouldn't be complete without the blessed ice sculptures. Obviously, this is an easy one, as not many plots are this exhilarating. You get Panic at the Riverside Motel, a comedic drama that is currently gracing the stage at the Stage IV Theatre and making audiences laugh and squirm uncomfortably at the same time.
Students at the Young Actors' Theatre Camp (YATC) will be acting, singing and dancing their way through their winter holiday break as stars from stage and screen come to teach students attending the Young Actors' Theatre Camp, taking place December 28, 2013 - January 3, 2014. Teachers scheduled for the Winter Camp include: John Ainsworth ('American Horror Story'), Daniel Dreifuss (Oscar-nominated producer, 'No'), Emmy Frevele (Los Angeles-based choreographer), Sarah Gaboury ('Parks and Recreation'), Kevin Kent (Emcee from Teatro Zinzanni), Matt Pittenger ('Community'), Meghan Rienks (YouTube sensation; former YATC camper), Shawn Ryan ('The Mentalist,' 'America's Got Talent') and cast members from The Book of Mormon, currently playing at San Francisco's Orpheum Theatre. Aladdin and His Winter Wish/written by Kris Lythgoe/directed by Bonnie Lythgoe/Pasadena Playhouse/through December 29 For a few years the prolific Lythgoe family have been entertaining us at Christmastime, first at the El Portal in NoHo and now at the Pasadena Playhouse with a British style panto. A panto is an interactive entertainment that starts with a very contemporary retelling of a fairy tale such as Snow White, Cinderella, or in this case Aladdin and turns it into a fun imaginative show with music that will appeal to both children and their parents. There's usually an actor in drag (outrageous Bruce Vilanch as the Widow Twankey, Aladdin's mother), a villain (Josh Adamson as Abanazar) and audience are encouraged to root for the heroes and HISS loudly at the villains. Actors such as Adamson tease the audience with a Mel Brooks-like phrase 'It's fun to be evil!' after which kids and adults boo and boo some more and even raise up props such as swords and other toy weapons in defense of their favorite hero. It's all in amusement, of course, and this year's Aladdin and His Winter Wish is by far the best show to date with a superlative cast, great special effects, some spectacular dancing and singing and an overall jolly good script by Kris Lythgoe that flows along without the slightest snag.

The production features recording artist David Osmond as Prince Harry, an on-screen appearance by Nigel Lythgoe ('So You Think You Can Dance, American Idol') as The Magic Mirror and Amy Whitcomb ('The Voice') as Snow White. Performers were selected to play the 'Seven Dwarfs' from local dance schools, Center Staging and Vibe.

Panic Productions presents Panic at the Riverside Motel, a riotous, fast-paced dark comedy written by John Pastore about a dead body and all the inconveniences it causes an engaged couple in a seedy motel. Maria Riboli directs a cast of five, including Olivia Rose Barresi, Tom Burka, Tom Cappadona, Thom Christensen, and Michael Orlandi.
