Chelsea Walker Wins 2017 RTST Director Award

The Royal Theatrical Support Trust (RTST) and Nuffield Southampton Theatres (NST) are delighted to announce that Chelsea Walker has been awarded the 2017 RTST Director Award, with Tinuke Craig as runner-up.

Bush Theatre Re-Opens in March with a Week-Long Celebration

The Bush Theatre will reopen after a year-long £4.3m redevelopment, the largest capital project in the theatre's history, with a bold new season kicked off by the European Premiere of Guards at the Taj by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph, directed by Jamie Lloyd (from 7 April). A brand new Studio space opens with the premiere of Barney Norris play While We're Here directed by Alice Hamilton (from 26 April).

Nuffield Southampton Theatres Announces 2017 Spring Season

Director Sam Hodges today announces the Spring 2017 season for the newly re-branded NST, Nuffield Southampton Theatres.  The name change recognises the addition of a brand-new venue in the heart of Southampton which opens in autumn 2017. 

BWW Interview: Adam Gillen On Playing Mozart In AMADEUS

Actor Adam Gillen's credits include A Taste of Honey at the Royal Exchange Theatre, The School for Scandal at the Barbican and the RSC's Wendy and Peter, as well as TV hits Fresh Meat and Benidorm. He's currently starring as Mozart, opposite Lucian Msamati as rival composer Salieri, in the National Theatre revival of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus, which begins previews later this month.

Young Chekhov Trilogy, 'PLOUGH' Wrap Up This Autumn; THE RED BARN, AMADEUS Begin This Month

Final performances of the Young Chekhov trilogy begin this autumn in the Olivier Theatre, and The Plough and the Stars is wrapping up at the Lyttelton. In addition, previews begin in the Lyttelton for The Red Barn on 6 October (press night on 17 October), and Amadeus starts previewing in the Olivier from 19 October, (press night on 26 October).

Ice and Fire Announces Full Cast for World Premiere of THE ISLAND NATION at the Arcola

ice&fire today announces the full company for the world premiere of The Island Nation, written by its Artistic Director Christine Bacon.  Ria Parry directs Claire Dargo, Ayesha Dharker, Bally Gill, Clive Hayward, Nikki Patel and Neran Persaud in the production which opens at the Arcola Theatre on 28 October, with previews from the 26 October, and runs until 19 November 2016. 

First Rehearsal Images Released for AMADEUS at the National Theatre

Rehearsals started this week for AMADEUS, which begins previews in the Olivier Theatre from 16 October (press night 26 October). This autumn, Peter Shaffer's classic play Amadeus makes a long-awaited return to the National Theatre after 37 years.

Sri Lanka Drama THE ISLAND NATION To Premiere At Arcola Theatre

ice&fire today announces the world premiere of THE ISLAND NATION, written by its Artistic Director Christine Bacon and directed by Ria Parry, which opens at the Arcola Theatre on 28 October, with previews from the 26 October, and runs until 19 November 2016. 

BWW Review: THEY DRINK IT IN THE CONGO, Almeida Theatre, 23 August 2016

How long does it take to cover the complex problems in the Congo, AKA the most dangerous place in the world? Adam Brace's play has a semi-joking educational sequence that attempts it in four and a half minutes - putting to bed the ubiquitous Um Bongo jingle - but the morass of conflicting information presents a dramatic problem that this witty, engaging but messily sprawling piece can't quite overcome.

BWW Interview: Director Maria Aberg on DOCTOR FAUSTUS

Swedish director Maria Aberg came to the UK to study at Mountview aged 20. She's since become a bold force in British theatre, with work ranging from Hotel at the National Theatre and Wildefire at the Hampstead to numerous productions for the RSC. Her most recent, Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, features lead actors Sandy Grierson and Oliver Ryan sharing the roles of Faustus and Mephistopheles, deciding on the night who plays which by striking matches. The production transfers to the Barbican next month as part of the RSC's London Season.

Michael Mayer Set to Direct Broadway Revival of BURN THIS; Jake Gyllenhaal Attached?

Today, a casting notice seems to confirm much of this with Mayer confirmed as director and the production set for a limited Broadway run in early 2017. The notice reports that rehearsals will begin in January, previews in February followed by a March opening and a June closing. This would follow the timetable of similar short-run star-driven play projects.
