The 18th Annual Fiercely Independent Woodstock Film Festival wrapped up on Sunday with the closing night film ARTHUR MILLER: WRITER which was followed by a Q&A with director Rebecca Miller.

On Saturday, October 14, the 18th annual Woodstock Film Festival Maverick Awards Ceremony took place at Backstage Studio Productions in Kingston, NY. More than 500 filmmakers, film industry members, community leaders, and audience members attended the event held in the heart of Kingston's Uptown Historic District.

On October 2nd, exactly one year from closing, cast members from the national tour of Newsies will reunite on the stage of Feinstein's/54 Below to present the second annual The Newsboys' Variety Show.

On Today, August 1 at 5 pm, the Williamstown Theatre Festival will host a WAM Theatre Fresh Takes Play Reading of Smart People by Lydia R. Diamond at the Clark Art Institute.  The reading will be directed by WAM's Artistic Director, Kristen van Ginhoven. Tickets are free but reservations are recommended.

WAM Theatre Artistic Director Kristen van Ginhoven has announced casting for the Fresh Takes Play Reading of Smart People by Lydia R. Diamond, hosted by the Williamstown Theatre Festival on Tuesday, August 1 at 5 pm. Van Ginhoven will direct this reading. Tickets are free but reservations are recommended. The reading will take place at the Clark Art Institute.

The WAM Theatre 2017 Fresh Takes Play reading series continues with The Droll by Meg Miroshnik at 3:30 pm on Sunday, June 4 at No. Six Depot Roastery and Cafe in West Stockbridge. Drama Desk winning and Tony/Grammy Award nominated composer Stanley Silverman is to attend the UK premiere of Hotel For Criminals co-written with pre-eminent avant garde theatre maker Richard Foreman. 

NEWSIES is a Disney Theatrical Productions musical based on their 1992 film Newsies. The original film took its inspiration from the Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. NEWSIES has a book by Harvey Fierstein with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman. It premiered at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2011 and made its Broadway debut in 2012, where it played for 1004 performances. The stage version contains songs from the movie and several new numbers. Those who grew up on the film version will notice that this new adaptation has written out Jack's original love interest Sarah Jacobs as well as the New York Sun reporter Brian Denton, who writes about the Newsies. These characters have been replaced by a new character, Katherine Plumber, a reporter who is a composite of the characters from the original film. The North American tour, which is currently playing at the Bass Concert Hall, started in October 2014 and is ending its 43 week run on October 2, 2016 here in Austin, TX.
