Opera Philadelphia and Apollo Theater to Present YARDBIRD, 4/1

The Apollo Theater and Opera Philadelphia announced today that Charlie Parker's YARDBIRD, composed by Daniel Schnyder with a libretto by Bridgette A. Wimberly, will have its New York premiere in a co-production between the two institutions, April 1 and 3, 2016.  The engagement marks the first time opera will be performed on the Apollo Theater stage, and the first time Opera Philadelphia will produce in New York. The opera will also be recorded for broadcast in November 2016 on New York City's classical music station 105.9 WQXR, at wqxr.org, and distributed nationally by the WFMT Radio Network.

R. Kelly to Bring 'The Buffet' Tour to Joe Louis Arena, 4/22

Three-time Grammy Award winner, multi-platinum selling singer, songwriter and producer R. Kelly is set to hit the rode for "The Buffet" tour starting Thursday, April 21, 2016. The 40 city tour is promoted by The Commission Presents and will kick off in Cincinnati-running through Chicago, Miami, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta & New Orleans. "The Buffet" tour, set to be one of R. Kelly's most entertaining shows to date, stops at Joe Louis Arena on Friday, April 22 at 8 p.m. following a sold out New Year's Eve performance at the Fox Theatre earlier this year. He'll be accompanied by a live band and backup dancers while performing songs his fans have never seen live.
