Circus Duo MAGMANUS Set for NYU Skirball This Weekend

NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts will open its 2015-16 season with the New York premiere of Attached by the Swedish Contemporary Circus duo Magmanus, running for two performances this weekend, September 25 and 26, 2015 at 8 pm.  There will be a free post-performance discussion with the performers after each performance.

American Premiere of SHADOWLAND Set for NYU Skirball, 11/20-12/6

NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts will present the North American premiere of Shadowland, a groundbreaking theatrical experience by the internationally acclaimed Pilobolus Dance Theater, running for three weeks, from November 20 - December 6, 2015.

BalletCollective to Premiere Two New Troy Schumacher Ballets, 11/4

New York, NY (September 17, 2015), BalletCollective will present two world premieres ballets by Troy Schumacher on November 4 and 5, 2015 at NYU Skirball Center, 566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square. The new works were inspired by separate series of commissioned photographs by Paul Maffi and Dafy Hagai, with commissioned scores by music director and resident composer Ellis Ludwig-Leon (San Fermin) and Mark Dancigers (NOW Ensemble).

NY Premiere of Donald Byrd's RACIAL SATIRE Set for NYU Skirball, 10/29-31

NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts will present the New York Premire of The Minstrel Show Revisited, a reworking of Donald Byrd's 1991 Bessie Award-winning dance/theater production that takes a satirical look at the derogatory song and dance tradition of minstrelsy and illuminates the lingering scars of racial, religious and sexual bigotry.  There will be a free a post-show discussion and Q&A with artists from Spectrum Dance Theater after each performance.

Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera Company to Present 15th Annual Peking Opera Festival, 9/20

New York, NY (August 2, 2015) – Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera Company (Qi Shu Fang, President; Ding Mei Kui, Artistic Director), recipient of National Heritage Fellowship for the Arts, will present the 15th Annual Peking Opera Festival and the U.S. Premiere of  The Three Inch Lotus featuring Wei Liu and the Wu Han Peking Opera Company of China, one of the Top Ten Peking Opera Companies in the world, as well as the Qi Shu Fang Peking Opera Company for one performance only on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at 2:30 PMat NYU Skirball Center (566 LaGuardia Place at Washington Square South). This performance is part of the World Stage Series presented by NYU Skirball Center.

15th Annual Peking Opera Festival Set for 9/20

Wei Liu (Artistic Director of Wu Han Peking Opera Company of China) is an award-winning Peking Opera performing artist. She is a Level-One Performing Artist of China*, and is known for her performance as virtuous and elite female characters (Qingyi). In her thirty-plus-year performing experience, she has created many original roles that received endless raves. Ms. Liu is also the youngest performer to ever receive two Plum Performance Awards, the highest honor to receive in the Performing Arts in China. Under her leadership, Wu Han Peking Opera Company has been continuously selected as one of Top Ten Peking Opera Company in China for many years.

The New York Civil Liberties Union, the New York State affiliate of the ACLU, welcomes a star-studded lineup for its annual benefit concert. 'Broadway Stands Up for Freedom,' a celebratory event in honor of the recent Supreme Court victory for the freedom to marry, will boast performances by some of Broadway's finest tonight, July 20, at the NYU Skirball Center for Performing Arts (566 LaGuardia Place).

The Visit, the final musical ever by legendary Tony Award-winning duo John Kander and Fred Ebb, celebrated its opening last night, April 23, 2015 at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street). NYU Skirball Sets Lineup for Circus Now: International Contemporary Circus Exposure 2015

For three special nights this winter, NYU SKIRBALL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (Michael Harrington, Executive Director) invites New York audiences to discover the global movement to revolutionize the circus. CIRCUS NOW: INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY CIRCUS EXPOSURE 2015 will be presented from January 8 through 10 at NYU Skirball (566 LaGuardia Place) with the support of the circus development organization Circus Now. The Festival will feature over 50 international artists and challenge audiences to reimagine their perception of a timeless art.

NYU Skirball to Present National Geographic Live Next Spring

This spring, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC will team up with NYU SKIRBALL CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS (Michael Harrington, Executive Director) to bring its acclaimed speaker series National Geographic Live to New York City for the very first time. One of the oldest programs in National Geographic's history, Nat Geo Live will take place over multiple dates this spring at NYU Skirball (566 LaGuardia Place) and feature speakers Paul Nicklen, Carsten Peter, Jodi Cobb, and Kobie Boykins.
