Theater Of War Productions Announces February 2018 Events

Building on the first year of his residency as a NYC Public Artist in Residence with the Department of Veterans Services, in 2018 artistic director of Theater of War Productions, Bryan Doerries, will bring a new roster of free events to theaters, parks, libraries and other venues across all five boroughs.

Black Lives Matter Inspired Netflix Drama On the Way

According to CNN, the Black Lives Matter movement serves as the inspiration for the upcoming Netflix Drama 'Seven Seconds' written by Veena Sud. The show also focuses on the the flaws of the justice system and how this contributed to the start of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s THE DRUM MAJOR INSTINCT to Be presented at Brooklyn Public Library Featuring Samira Wiley

Brooklyn Public Library and Theater of War Productions will present a dramatic reading and reenactment of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s final sermon, The Drum Major Instinct on February 4, 2018, 50 years to the day that King originally delivered the speech, just two months before his assassination. The free performance, staged at the Central Library, will feature actor Samira Wiley reading King's sermon, with a live gospel choir singing original and arranged music composed for the production. The dramatic staging will provide a starting point for a guided community discussion exploring themes of social justice and racial inequality.

Claudia Rankine To Receive 8th Annual Visionary Leadership Award

The International Festival of Arts & Ideas will present its 8th Annual Visionary Leadership Award to celebrated poet Claudia Rankine, recipient of a 2016 MacArthur Foundation Genius Fellowship, at an Award Luncheon and Ceremony on Thursday, March 8 at 12:00 PM at the Omni New Haven Hotel at Yale (155 Temple Street).

Actor's Express Presents ANGELS IN AMERICA, Parts One and Two

Actor's Express will produce the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches and Part Two: Perestroika. Co-directed by Freddie Ashley and Martin Damien Wilkins, Angels in America will run in rep, allowing audiences some opportunities to see both plays in one day. Performances are January 12 through February 17.

Playwright Bryna Turner Among Lincoln Center's 2018 Emerging Artists

Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts announced today the 2018 class of Emerging Artists, recognizing diverse talents, from a choreographer bridging the worlds of classical Indian and contemporary dance to one of the new faces of indie film to world-class musicians. Each recipient was nominated by one of Lincoln Center's 11 resident organizations, acknowledging his or her extraordinary talent and budding career.
