January 2014 Is 'Shakespeare Month' at The Alden

Never "Too Much of a Good Thing," The Alden in McLean has declared January 2014 "Shakespeare Month" and has pulled together a month-long celebration of the Bard which will include films, a discussion with local experts and two performances by the acclaimed American Shakespeare Center on Tour. Prices vary and some events are free. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.

J Hernandez never really expected to become a professional actor. 'Personally, I didn't think I was very good at it,' he laughs. Fortunately, others disagreed. Tonight, he opens in FROST/NIXON at New City Stage in Philadelphia. For Hernandez, who specializes in classical theatre, it marks a significant transition. It is his first role in a contemporary play in five years. Since gaining his MFA at the University of Virginia in 2008, Hernandez has been in steady demand on the Shakespearean stage. He will return to that familiar territory later this season in the role of Mercutio for Philadelphia Shakespeare Theatre's ROMEO AND JULIET.

Bardway Baby! is back at the Utah Shakespeare Festival for its third annual night of musical entertainment. Bardway, Baby! is a late-night concert event featuring classic Broadway show tunes. Performed by Festival actors, the concert will be held on August 10 at approximately 11 p.m. in the Auditorium Theatre. Tickets are $25 for reserved seating or $10 for general admission. They are available now at the Festival ticket office or by calling 1-800-PLAYTIX.

Utah Native to Play Jean Valjean in Les Misérables for the Utah Shakespeare Festival

The Utah Shakespeare Festival recently announced the casting of J. Michael Bailey, a Utah actor, to play the lead role of Jean Valjean in the epic musical Les Miserables. After conducting a national casting search in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles, artistic directors David Ivers and Brian Vaughn found Bailey in the Festival's own backyard.
