Gillian Anderson and Christopher Eccleston join Toby Stephens and Tara Fitzgerald at the Donmar

The Pittsburgh International Children's Festival, a division of The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, will present the 23rd annual festival May 13-17, 2009, in various venues throughout the city's university district of Oakland. The Festival is currently one of only four international theater festivals for children in the United States. Featured Children's Festival performance sites include Charity Randall Theatre, Studio Theatre, Bellefield Hall Auditorium, Synod Hall and Carnegie Lecture Hall. The Festival grounds, free to the public, will complement the featured performances with hands-on cultural and educational activities, roving artists, booths, and exhibitors. The Target Community Stage returns this year as the center of outdoor Festival activities. The stage features a lively mix of professional artists and regional performance groups.

Cameron Mackintosh has been honoured for his contribution to musical theatre at this year's South Bank Show awards. Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia presents an innovative double-bill adaptation of the beloved children's bedtime classics GOODNIGHT MOON AND THE RUNAWAY BUNNY, part of the Discovery Theater Series for Families at PlayhouseSquare. GOODNIGHT MOON is a celebration of familiar nighttime rituals, while THE RUNAWAY BUNNY is a pretend tale of leaving home that evokes reassuring responses from the bunny's loving mum. Both tales feature endearing rabbit characters, and the soothing rhythms of bunny banter and dream-like imagery never fail to infuse young audiences with a reassuring sense of security. Mermaid's staged adaptation will bring a new sense of appreciation to stories that have delighted several generations.

The Emelin Theatre has added two November concerts to its season with Simone-the accomplished jazz singer and daughter of Nina Simone- on November 7, and legendary girl group vocalist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ronnie Spector on November 15. In addition to the line-up of concerts this fall, including country music chart-topper Bryan White (October 24) and Tony Award-winner and jazz singer Ann Hampton Callaway (October 25), the Emelin's 2008-2009 season will feature film, music, family programs and more.

Following tributes at venues ranging from New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Paley Center for Media, New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, Chicago's Theatre Building and Washington DC's The Library of Congress and The Kennedy Center, Strouse will cross the Atlantic where he will celebrate his 80th birthday, his 50 years of composing for the theatre, film and television and the release of his new book, Put On a Happy Face - A Broadway Memoir.

The Emelin's family programming this year expands its strong tradition of quality, fun and enriching performing arts events for younger audiences with more shows throughout the season. Super Saturdays: Family Fun highlights include the highly praised black light puppet show, The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia's The Very Hungry Caterpillar, celebrated folk singer Tom Chapin, several books brought to life by Theatreworks USA productions, kindie rockers Hot Peas N' Butter, as well as Film Club Jr. in collaboration with the New York International Children's Film Festival.

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis; Executive Director Mara Manus) announced that KICKING A DEAD HORSE, a new play written and directed by Pulitzer Prize winner Sam Shepard and featuring Tony Award nominee Stephen Rea, has extended its run by two weeks. Following a sold-out run at Ireland's Abbey Theatre, it will preview at The Public on Wednesday, June 25 and run through Sunday, August 10 with an official press opening on Monday, July 14 at 7 PM.

The original stars of Side By Side By Sondheim--Julia McKenzie, Millicent Martin, David Kernan and Ned Sherrin--will reunite for a charity benefit concert of the revue on May 21st at the Novello Theatre in London

The Likes of Us, the first musical collaboration between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, has been recorded and will be available on CD on March 28th.

Although the musical was written in 1965 it has never been performed to the public until now. In a concert recorded at the Mermaid Theatre in London, the BBC Concert Orchestra is joined by a star studded cast, headed by Stephen Fry as the narrator under the direction of Simon Lee.
