Columbus State University 's College of the Arts will present renowned dancer/choreographer/actress Mercedes Ellington with its 2017 "Lifetime Achievement Award in Dance" at CSU's annual BROADWAY BALL on Friday, December 1 in Columbus, GA. The announcement was made by Karyn Tomsczak, the Viki Jiles Flanagan Distinguished Chair in Dance in CSU's Department of Theatre.

Today's subject George Caldwell is currently living his theatre life as one of the composers and the onstage pianist for the creative dance troupe Urban Bush Women. The company performs Walking with'Trane this Friday and Saturday in the Eisenhower Theater at Kennedy Center.

December at Blue Note Hawaii, the state's premier venue for the world's most celebrated artists, promises to be one of the most musically-diverse months yet. Favorites will include 'Let It Snow,' Mel Torme's 'Christmas Song,' 'Little Drummer Boy,' 'My Favorite Things,' 'Silent Night,' and many more. One of the most influential figures in jazz, if not all American music, Duke Ellington produced an astoundingly rich body of music. His band still tours to this day and will perform at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, February 9 at 8pm.

Carline Ray, one of the great jazz pioneers, an activist in women's rights, a performer and educator, and an active member of Saint Peter's Church, died at Isabella House in Manhattan on July 18, 2013. She was 88 years old.
