Phylicia Rashad to Honor Dance Legend Louis Johnson in UP IN THE AIR Tribute This Fall

UP IN THE AIR, a tribute to dance legend Louis Johnson, will take place Monday, October 5, 2015 at 7:00 pm in the Peter Norton Theater at Symphony Space located at 2537 Broadway in New York City. The event has two purposes: to honor the life and work of Johnson and to raise funds to complete a feature length documentary about the renowned dancer entitled UP IN THE AIR.

MAURICE HINES IS TAPPIN' THRU LIFE to Open Delaware Theatre Company's 37th Season

Delaware Theatre Company, under the artistic leadership of Bud Martin, excitedly welcomes dance legend Maurice Hines to Wilmington with his new musical MAURICE HINES IS TAPPIN' THRU LIFE. Audiences will be wowed by this infectious performer, who brings his life and treasured moments to the stage through heartwarming montages and performances.  Directed by two-time Tony Award-winning director Jeff Calhoun and featuring a new generation of tap dancing extraordinaires, The Manzari Brothers, and music by the all-female big band Diva Jazz Orchestra, TAPPIN' THRU LIFE will dance its way onto Delaware Theatre Company's stage for a three week run from September 16-October 4, 2015.

Ms. Lee's new concert spotlights the music of the legendary Cy Coleman, including songs like 'Nobody Does it Like Me' and 'It's Not Where You Start' from her Tony-nominated performance in the musical Seesaw, along with other magnificent work and some surprises from Coleman's songbook.

Last night Julie Budd gave her first performance as  the latest Artist In Residence at The Metropolitan Room and broadwayworld was there.  While enjoying a multi-faceted musical career, Julie's credits range from television to film, the New York stage, and symphonies all over the country, along with the most lavish casinos and showrooms everywhere.  She began her professional career at the tender age of twelve, after meeting record producer/orchestrator Herb Bernstein. He immediately took Julie under his wing and introduced her to Merv Griffin at a recording session in New York City. After hearing Julie sing, she was invited to appear on more than 100 of Merv's Shows.

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company have announced the judges for the 7th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition on Monday, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). The event, which is free and open to the public, features high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, Portland and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright.

Those shows included TAPPIN' THROUGH LIFE (Maurice Hines), BREATH AND IMAGINATION (Roland Hayes), WOODY SEZ; LIFE AND MUSIC OF WOODY GUTHRIE (Woody Guthrie), THE DEVIL'S MUSIC: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF BESSIE SMITH (Bessie Smith), and ONE NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN (Janis Joplin). Each told a story about the person through their own words, their music, or from the mouths of those who knew them. Often they have been tied to Black History Month.

KATHERINE'S COLORED LIEUTENANT to Open Geva's 2015 Fielding Studio Series

Geva Theatre Center's 2015 Fielding Studio Series begins with the world premiere of Katherine's Colored Lieutenant by Nora Cole and is directed by David Schweizer. The production begins performances on February 5 and runs in the Fielding Nextstage through February 22.

59E59 Theaters will host the New York premiere of EVERYBODY GETS CAKE!, created and performed by Joel Jeske, Danny Gardner and Brent McBeth, and directed by Mark Lonergan. Produced by Parallel Exit, EVERYBODY GETS CAKE! begins performances on Friday, January 16 for a limited engagement through Sunday, February 8.
