BWW Review: MRS. PACKARD: Nevertheless, She Persisted

Before Senator Elizabeth Warren, another Elizabeth spoke out, despite being warned and threatened with commitment to an insane asylum. Bridge Repertory Theater, in a co-production with Playhouse Creatures, presents Emily Mann's MRS. PACKARD, a drama inspired by true events, chronicling one woman's fight for the right to freely express her opinion, even if it differed from that of her husband. Under the direction of Emily Ranii, a cast of eighteen actors, lead by Olivia D'Ambrosio, Joseph Rodriguez, and Steven Barkhimer, stages a vivid and compelling interpretation of Mann's play.

BWW Review: Mozart's Music Lifts Moonbox Productions' AMADEUS

Moonbox Productions, Director Allison Olivia Choat, and Music Director Dan Rodriguez pay precise attention to the musical framework of Peter Shaffer's AMADEUS, with music performed by the Baroque ensemble Grand Harmonie Orchestra. Matthew Zahnzinger owns the spotlight as Antonio Salieri and newcomer Cody Sloan embodies the boyishness of the prodigy. The cast impresses, but the playwright had a hard time finding an ending he liked, so be prepared for a long night.

BWW Review: Crazy For CRAZY FOR YOU

Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston brings back the original sets, costumes, and choreography for its fourth production of the 1992 Tony Award-winner for Best Musical. CRAZY FOR YOU could be subtitled "Gershwin's Greatest Hits," with eighteen musical treats splendidly played by a 15-piece orchestra conducted by Music Director Dan Rodriguez. Broadway veterans and Reagle audience favorites Kirby Ward (Director) and Beverly Ward star and give a song-and-dance master class that will have you tapping your feet right along with them. CRAZY FOR YOU is a classic 1930s musical comedy, full of energy and optimism. It's just what the psychiatrist ordered!

Broadway veterans Kirby and Beverly Ward star in Reagle Music Theatre of Greater Boston's Crazy for You, George and Ira Gershwin's musical comedy about a 1930's playboy who just wants to dance, through August 14, 2016 at the Robinson Theatre (617 Lexington St. Waltham, MA, 02452).  Ward reprises his spectacular Olivier Award-nominated role as 'Bobby Child,' the part he originated for the 1993 London premiere.  This high-energy production also stars Broadway veteran Beverly Ward (Epic Proportions, Billy Elliot ) as 'Polly Baker.' Crazy for You features flashy tap dance numbers and such memorable songs as 'Someone to Watch Over Me,' 'Embraceable You' and 'I Got Rhythm.' Original choreography by Susan Stroman, reproduced by Eileen Grace (Radio City Christmas Spectacular, 42nd Street).

BWW Review: Tom Stoppard's ARCADIA at Central Square Theatre

Presidential candidates are not the only ones taking to the debate stage these days. In Tom Stoppard's Arcadia, characters stand and challenge each other, far more diplomatically than our friends running for higher office, on a long list of mathematical, scientific, and philosophical theories. Characters with strong conviction passionately defending those convictions can make for the type of thought-provoking theatre that stays with you long after curtain call.

BWW Reviews: Check Into Horovitz's 6 HOTELS at Hub Theatre Company of Boston

Hub Theatre Company of Boston draws the curtain on its second season with the Boston premiere of 6 HOTELS by Israel Horovitz. Half a dozen slices of life share comedic and poignant DNA, with four actors playing twenty-two characters trying to connect in hotel rooms, bars, and restaurants. Club Cafe serves as an ideal venue and co-directors John Geoffrion and Daniel Bourque use the space well. Some vignettes land better (lightly) than others (with a thud), but the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
