Join Morris Arts and Art in the Atrium at the free public opening of New Jersey's largest exhibition of African-American art, curated and assembled by Art in the Atrium. The reception will be held tonight, January 23 from 6-9pm at the Atrium Gallery, floors 2-5 of the Morris County Administration & Records Building, 10 Court Street, Morristown, NJ.

February at Symphony Space brings a lively + eclectic trio of music shows in the intimate Leonard Nimoy Thalia: Night Out with Richard Hell, featuring Donald Cumming (lately of The Virgins) on February 12; The Love Show with Helga Davis, a Valentine's Day celebration with boozy benefits on February 13; and the multi-lingual, multi-media grooves of The Shanghai Restoration Project on February 26. Spanning indie rock, R&B, Chinese hip-hop, and much more, these shows embody the imaginative programming that has made Symphony Space a top destination for music on the Upper West Side. When brainstorming concepts for new shows, the idea of making a musical about Berry Gordy--not necessarily a household name, may have seemed like an odd choice. So let's look at Plan B....a musical about the careers of Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson and Marvin Gaye. Well, essentially the two are all the same musical. The slick production of MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL that opened on Tuesday night at Shea's tells the story of producer Berry Gordy and his start up record label, 'Motown.'

MOTOWN is set to return to Broadway at a Nederlander theatre to be announced in July 2016. Last spring, the first National Tour of Motown the Musical opened to critical acclaim, grossing an impressive $20 Million dollars during a packed sixteen-week run, and is now heading to major markets across the US. The touring production of MOTOWN the Musical sent a special 'Happy Trails' to the Broadway Production of MOTOWN, closing today, Sunday Jan. 18. With direction and arrangement by Jesse Nager (Smokey Robinson) the video features Julius Thomas III (Berry Gordy), Allison Semmes (Diana Ross), Jarran Muse (Marvin Gaye), Krisha Mercano (Suzanne De Passe), and Rod Harrelson (dance captain), all of whom joined the tour from the Broadway company. Producers Kevin McCollum, Doug Morris and Berry Gordy have announced that MOTOWN: THE MUSICAL original Broadway cast member Jesse Nager has joined the First National Tour in the leading role of Smokey Robinson.

Any long-time theatregoer will have horror stories of audiences that got too enthusiastic at a show with well-known music, especially jukebox musicals made up of mostly pre-existing pop tunes. I've known people to hum or outright sing along, whoop, cheer and scream like they're at a concert, or even get up and dance in the aisles. At most shows, this behavior is frowned upon by other audience members, or suppressed by ushers. However, at 'Motown,' the Berry Gordy bio-musical, this engaged behavior is encouraged- hell, it's part of the show. You see, audiences at 'Motown' fill a triplicate role: first, the traditional audience at a play, watching the events unfold through the fourth wall; second, the (in-world) audience watching a Motown retrospective show; finally, the various real, historical audiences at performances by Motown artists, from Parisians getting to hear the first international performances by The Supremes, to a spontaneously integrated audience in the Deep South, at a Motown show interrupted by gunshots.

A slew of plays and musicals will open on Broadway in Spring 2015, but where there is good news, there is also sad. To make room for highly-anticipated new productions such as Finding Neverland, On the Twentieth Century and Doctor Zhivago, some of our most beloved shows must close for good. Film and Broadway Star and now 57TH ANNUAL GRAMMY AWARD NOMINEE ANTONIQUE SMITH is celebrating her first GRAMMY NOMINATION in the Best Traditional R&B Performance category, in addition to the ascent of her debut single "Hold Up Wait A Minute (Woo Woo)". This is ANTONIQUE SMITH's first nomination. Antonique Smith, a native of East Orange, NJ, first garnered attention in her buzz-worthy leading role in 'RENT' on Broadway as Mimi Marquez.

The Commitments has been bringing the people's music to the people of London, playing to packed houses since the show opened at the Palace Theatre in September 2013. Due to overwhelming popular demand, the show is to extend its current booking period for the second time to 13th September 2015.
