Joffrey Ballet Concert Group Tours China for Beijing Dance Academy's 60th Anniversary Gala

Joffrey Ballet Concert Group, the pre-professional performance company of the Joffrey Ballet School, announces their first tour to the People's Republic of China. Fourteen of the troupe's 35 dancers will represent the United States at the Beijing Dance Academy's 60th Anniversary gala performance. The festivities will span two weeks in October, during which time the company dancers will interact with dance companies, artistic directors, choreographers, and dance students from around the globe.

Ebony Repertory Theatre announced today that Garth Fagan Dance will return to Los Angeles after an absence of ten years. The company's program includes the Los Angeles premiere of excerpts from 'Lighthouse/Lightning Rod,' a collaboration of the company's Founder/Artistic Director Garth Fagan, Wynton Marsalis and California-based visual artist Alison Saar. 'Lighthouse' opened the Brooklyn Academy of Music season in 2012. Performances at the 400-seat Nate Holden Performing Arts Center (4718 W. Poetic Theater Productions, under the direction of Co-Artistic Directors' Jeremy Karafin and Alex Mallory, has announced that it will stage the world premiere of BACK, a new play written by Mickey Bolmer and directed by Andrew Willis-Woodward, that celebrates and mourns the history of Greenwich Village through the lives and stories of Frank O'Hara, Cookie Mueller, Hibiscus, Nan Goldin and Aaron Burr, among others. BACK features production design by Rachel Klein and begins previews on Friday, October 17th at 8PM at the cell, 338 West 23rd St. The official opening is on Thursday, October 23rd at 8PM.

The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) today announced the participants of the third cycle of the BAM Professional Development Program (BAM PDP), led by BAM and the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland. The companies for this session represent mixed disciplines ranging from dance to theater to opera. Chosen by a BAM-convened panel, the organizations taking part in this session are Encompass New Opera Theatre, Satellite Collective, Summation Dance, and Treehouse Shakers. As with the previous sessions, the DeVos Institute extended invitations to a group of organizations to apply for the training portion of the BAM PDP-expanding the program's reach beyond Brooklyn-based companies. These additional organizations taking part in the program areBalletNext, Beth Morrison Projects, S? Percussion, and Zvi Dance.
