Playwrights Horizons today announced its 2021-22 season. The influential Off-Broadway institution returns to in-person performance after 18 months in which, under new artistic leadership, it has marked its 50th anniversary and reflected deeply on the role the theater should play in the life of its city, its country, and the world.

Irvine Barclay Theatre will kick off a new season on September 9 with an array of renowned artists including country chart-topping trio The Gatlin Brothers; multi-Grammy-winning jazz artist Pat Metheny; internationally-acclaimed song stylist Michael Feinstein; and author and social commentator Fran Lebowitz.

Real Time remix is a new selection of short works in which four storytellers crisscross paths across dimensions as they seek to survive the weight of white words and thrive. Learn more about the performances and how to view them here!

Roman Songs was produced by Grammy-winner Patrick Dillett (Sufjan Stevens, The National, St. Vincent) with Henry Linnell on guitar, and art direction by John Flansburgh. 

Throughout the long, dark days of the pandemic, artists everywhere have dreamed of the day when they can bring their creativity into the light once again and share with their audiences a celebration of the joy, uplift, and healing inherent in the creative process. In Maine, as summer blossoms, arts organizations return to their mission one by one, and, perhaps even more amazing, new ones are born. Hogfish Regenerative Arts is one such new venture, born of its creators, Edwin and Matt Cahill’s, desire to create “an artist sanctuary and body of work dedicated to restoring creative and physical health to individuals, communities, and our earth.”

Leading this fully BSL-integrated production will be Rhiannon Jones (Silent Witness, BBC) as Tess Canty and Hannah Brownlie (The Offenders, Amazon) as Bess Tudor. They will be joined by David King Yombo (The Visit, National Theatre), Alex Scott Fairley (Blood Brothers, West End and UK tour) and Julie Wood (Radio Sea Breeze, TV).

Jobsite revels in the strange, the unorthodox, the Masterclass of all things twisted and warped; and these are some centralized moments of Shockheaded Peter or its namesake Der Struwwelpeter. Having personally never heard of Der Struwwelpeter or William Maloney’s The Worst of Everything, I had no idea what I was in store for. Which made this particular show more zany, exciting, and mentally stimulating than most seen as of late. From every angle, there was something to watch, something to leave our mouths agape and make you just think what the hell?

The Lincoln Financial Foundation has awarded a $25,000 grant to The Mark Twain House & Museum to support the museum’s educational programs that serve Hartford students. These programs include its Free Visit Program, which allows Hartford schools to tour the museum and participate in its various interactive learning programs.
