Photo Coverage: Todd Murray & Stacy Sullivan Bring SEPARATE WAYS to Feinstein's/54 Below
by Stephen Sorokoff
- Oct 5, 2016
Critically acclaimed artists Stacy Sullivan and Todd Murray brought a thought provoking, sometime humorous, and musically entertaining look at the very human quandary of 'should I stay or should I go with ' with their show Separate Ways to Feinstein's/54 Below last night and Broadwayworld was there. They say that breaking up is hard to do; most certainly. But with writers such as George Gershwin, Joni Mitchell, Adam Guettel, Adele, we find that skies can be sunny blue or grey, and goodbyes can be happy. Songwriters have looked for ways to express the angst of people's need to be joined and separate at the same time. Todd and Stacy are masters at bringing honesty and life to their lyrics.

In 1991, after having performed as a jazz vocalist in the New York nightclub scene for about five years, Laurie Krauz was searching for a new musical director-and a new musical direction. She had cast a wide net until a friend recommended Daryl Kojak and Laurie scheduled a getting-to-know-you session. 'I don't exactly recall the first song we worked on together but I felt as if I was being levitated off the floor when he played for me,' Laurie remembers. 'It was magic and it has remained magic for a 25 years.' Now Krauz and Kojak will display what Laurie calls 'A collaboration for the ages' at the Metropolitan Room on May 13 at 7 pm in the ninth show of the critically acclaimed monthly series, New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits.

BWW 2015 NY Cabaret Awards: 'Editor's Choice' Honors Go To Karen Mason, Mark Nadler, Steve Ross, Alex Rybeck, Jim Caruso, Sean Harkness and Ian Herman
by Stephen Hanks
- Jan 20, 2016
After BroadwayWorld launched its New York Cabaret Awards in 2012, the cabaret section's editors realized that the selected categories and the popular vote nature of the election didn't adequately recognize some great performances and shows for that particular year. So in 2013, BWW added "Editor's Choice Awards" to the mix to not only reward special performances but also to acknowledge people who have helped grow cabaret and foster the spirit of the art form.
This year, BWW New York Cabaret Editor Stephen Hanks and his reviewing staff-including Alix Cohen, David Clarke, Billie Roe, Rembert Block, and John Hoglund-selected seven stars of cabaret for this special honor. Now that the Awards for 2015 performances and shows are official, we wanted to tell you a bit about this year's "Editor's Choice Award" winners and offer them a chance to thank the New York cabaret community. Congratulations to all these worthy Award recipients.
