International Contemporary Ensemble Announces New ICEcommons Composer Residency

The International Contemporary Ensemble announces six composers chosen to be the first ICEcommons Artists-in-Residence: Helga Arias, Kate Gentile, Murat olak, Ylva Lund Bergner, Fernanda Navarro, and Bergr n Sn bj rnsd ttir. Represented by a diversity of backgrounds and musical styles, the cohort was selected by a panel of ICE musicians and outside experts who, over the course of six weeks, became familiar with more than 700 composers who submitted their creative work for consideration via a new call for scores on the ICEcommons web portal.

Parity Productions, the New York based theatre company dedicated to producing new work and filling at least 50% of the creative positions (playwrights, directors, and designers) with women and/or trans and gender nonconforming (TCNG) artists, is pleased to announce its selection to the 2019/2020 Season of Next Door at New York Theatre Workshop for its world premiere production of Mirrors by 2018 Parity Commission Winner Azure D. It's easy to see why 'Tosca' is one of the most popular works in opera.Its very musical style, broken free from the strict opera house rules before it, allows it to breathe. Singers are not urgently singing every moment. The supertitles person can take a break as it goes dark from time to time. Still, there is drama to burn in the story of an opera singer in the midst of a divided Italy in 1800.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America held the annual Pacific Youth of the Year Celebration on May 9, 2019 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Club alumnus Mario Lopez received the prestigious Champion of Youth Award, and Sabrina McFarland from Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, was named the 2019 Pacific Youth of the Year. Television and radio personality, Rocsi Diaz was emcee. The evening fundraiser featured vocal performances by Club members from Boys & Girls Clubs of Venice, Boys & Girls Clubs of Burbank, and a dance performance by Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Conejo Valley. John Lynch, General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers, Steve Layton, Principal and Co-Founder of LBA Realty, and Byron Roth, Chairman and CEO of ROTH Capital Partners, co-chaired the event. Celebration attendees included Lance Bass, Jake T. Austin, Anthony Lanier II, and Camila Banus.

Four-time Tony Award Winner Jerry Zaks will direct, joined by Tony Award Nominees John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick (book) and Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick (music and lyrics).
Atlanta Opera Celebrates Record-Breaking 2018-19 Season

The Atlanta Opera broke new records this season. Even before its final presentation Francesca Zambello's new take on La traviata, which closed this past weekend 2018-19 was already guaranteed to be the company's highest-grossing season of the past decade, highlighted by last fall's West Side Story, the highest-selling production in the Atlanta Opera's 39-year history (Opera News).
