From August 25 to September 2, Theater for the New City's Dream Up Festival will present the world premiere of a new translation by Robert Greer of August Strindberg's 'The Father,' directed by Mr. Greer and performed by an ensemble of actors from August Strindberg Rep, who developed the piece in a workshop production last November at Gene Frankel Theatre.
ROUND WENT THE WHEEL, a new play written by Frank Ceruzzi and directed by Janet Bentley, will have its world premiere this summer as an Official Selection the 2019 Broadway Bound Theatre Festival at the Lion Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, New York, NY 10036). In Scena! Italian Theater Festival NY announces Tobia Rossi's play Hide and Seek (Nascondino) as the 2019 Mario Fratti Award winner. The award ceremony will take place on Monday, May 13 at 6pm at the Italian Cultural Institute (686 Park Ave, New York, NY 10021) where the reading of the translation of the play, made by the official translator of the award Carlotta Brentan, will be presented together with the award to playwright Tobia Rossi. Special mention goes to Ulisse-L'ultimo Inganno by Antonia Brancati in second place and third place goes to L'Annunciazione by Pasquale Faraco.
The tale, set in the 1960s, takes place in the city of Venice. It centers on Guido Contini who is dreading his upcoming 40th birthday. We follow him as he is facing a midlife crisis that seems to be blocking artistic whims cornering him in a web of romantic complications; Both in real life and his mind. Arthur Kopit's book takes much insight from the viewer as they switch between reality and Guido's mind. Moreover, the music, by Maury Yeston, is rich and moving.

Italian Theater Festival NY, a festival of Italian theater taking place in all five boroughs of NYC, April 29-May 13, 2019. The two evenings are designed to enable audiences of the #MeToo era to examine the war between the sexes from both a classical and a modern perspective.
