The Syracuse University Department of Drama packs three musicals, a wild comedy, a classic Shaw, and a never-before-produced contemporary comedy into a season full of surprises and infrequently performed theatrical gems. Beginning with the musical Nine, the 2016/2017 season includes Laura and the Sea, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins (co-produced with Syracuse Stage), The King Stag, Major Barbara, and From Berlin to Broadway With Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage. 

Casting has been announced for the new musicals in development at Eugene O'Neill Theater Center's National Music Theater Conference later this month. Among the actors premiering new work are Adam Chanler-Berat, Erin Davie, Colin Hanlon, Kevin Mambo, Matt Von Roderick, Christina Sajous, and Remy Zaken.

IN SCENA! ITALIAN THEATER FESTIVAL NY announces the winner of the 2016 Mario Fratti Award: BUTTERFLIES by Emanuele Aldrovandi. Presented annually to an emerging Italian playwright, the winning play is translated into English and the playwright receives a specially commissioned lithograph by artist Victoria Febrer.

The 34th Annual Fred & Adele Astaire Awards, which recognizes outstanding achievements in dance on Broadway and in film, takes place on Monday, May 16, 2016.

Kairos Italy Theater (KIT), the preeminent Italian theater company in New York, will present the 4th annual IN SCENA! ITALIAN THEATER FESTIVAL NY. This 15-day festival will offer 5 fully-staged productions from Italy, among other events and activities. All are presented in Italian and English or with English supertitles, curated by Kairos Italy Theater in collaboration with Montclair State University. From tonight, March 12, to April 2, August Strindberg Repertory will present Strindberg's DAMASCUS II, adapted by Edgar Chisholm, directed by Robert Greer.

 From March 12 to April 2, August Strindberg Repertory will present Strindberg's 'Damascus II,' adapted by Edgar Chisholm, directed by Robert Greer. This is the second installment of the three-part work in which Strindberg first introduced true surrealism to the stage in the theatrical representation of the dream. Strindberg's tale of life in decadent artists' circles of 1890s Sweden will be brought to life in 1960s California and its leading character, an alienated writer, has been re-envisioned as an author modeled on Amiri Baraka.

From March 12 to April 2, August Strindberg Repertory will present Strindberg's DAMASCUS II, adapted by Edgar Chisholm, directed by Robert Greer.

Two New Yorkers who have been staunch advocates of new works for the theater - the late actress and philanthropist Betsy Von Furstenberg, along with sculptor and painter Donn Russell - will be honored when Theater for the New City, the Lower East Side theater complex now in its 30th year, presents its annual fundraising gala LOVE N' COURAGE on February 22 at 6 pm at the National Arts Club (15 Gramercy Park South in Manhattan), it has been announced by Crystal Field, TNC's Executive Director.

Director is Rina W. Elisha and musical director is Barbara Ames. The evening will feature works composed by Anne Phillips, Alice Shields, Mira j Spektor, Haim Elisha and Seymour Barab. Taken together, the two plays illustrate the changing nature of the battle of the sexes between the postwar period and now. The two-part evening is directed by actor/director Stephan Morrow, who plays the instructor of a school for gigolos in 'The Academy.'

From October 8 to 25, Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of a new play by Mario Fratti, 'Wives,' in a double-bill with his breakthrough play, 'The Academy.' Taken together, the two plays illustrate the changing nature of the battle of the sexes between the postwar period and now. The two-part evening is directed by actor/director Stephan Morrow, who plays the instructor of a school for gigolos in 'The Academy.'

August Strindberg Repertory Theatre will present Strindberg's THE STORM, adapted and directed by Robert Greer, October 4 to 30 as part of an exploration of the author's final works.
