From June 9 to 25, La MaMa and Yara Arts Group will present '1917-2017 Tychyna, Zhadan & the Dogs,' a new theatre piece with poetry which examines what individuals do when a society crumbles.

With a decisive battle mounting in the Eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk, Yara Arts Group has chosen to replace its upcoming production of 'Dark Night Bright Stars,' a play based on the friendship of a Ukrainian painter with an African-American actor in 1858, with 'Hitting Bedrock,' a new work based on first-person testimonials of refugees from Donetsk and people stranded there. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the piece February 20 to March 8 in its First Floor Theater 74A East Fourth Street, Manhattan. Virlana Tkacz directs.

In 'Winter Light' Yara Arts Group will perform a World Music Theater piece that includes the Koliadnyky, an ensemble of winter song singers from Kryvorivnia (Ukraine); scenes from the crisis in Ukraine today, and an 18th century Baroque Nativity folk opera staged by Yara artists. La MaMa E.T.C. will present the piece this weekend, December 27-28 in its Ellen Stewart Theater, 66 East Fourth Street (in Manhattan's East Village).

This fall, PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE will celebrate the start of its 37th season with a benefit dinner to be held Thursday, November 7 at the Golden Unicorn (18 E Broadway at Catherine Street) in Chinatown.

PAN ASIAN REPERTORY THEATRE will expand training opportunities in its 37th Milestone Season, and announces that its fall line-up will include an exciting new opportunity to explore Hula Basics for 8 Thursdays from Oct 3 - Dec 6, 2013 with instructor by Marina Celander. Enhanced programming complements Pan Asian's popular Acting/Writing Lab led by Obie Award- winning artist, Ernest Abuba, which will be offered for 10 Wednesdays from Oct 9 - Dec 12, 2013. Tonight, 9 October, the Alliance will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary and pay tribute to three extraordinary leaders and their commitment to the arts: Deepak Chopra, physician and author, Vishakha N. Desai, longtime president and CEO of the Asia Society; and Fred Ho, composer, musician, and activist. Actor, writer, and activist Christine Toy Johnson will also be recognized for her dedicated service and voluntarism with the 2012 Wai Look Award.

Tom Lee will dramatize the legend of Ko'olau, a modern epic of Hawai'i, in a puppet theater work at La MaMa from September 18 to October 5, 2008 at La MaMa E.T.C.
