Hangar Theatre Announces 2020 Virtual Season!

The Show Must Go...Online! After careful consideration of the continued impact of COVID-19, the Hangar Theatre has made the decision to replace all of its live artistic programming this summer with new, virtual experiences. Artistic Director, Michael Barakiva states, a?oewe strongly believe that this is the only responsible decision because of the safety issues we are all facing as a community and nation. World Premiere Repertory Of Celebrated Queens Girl Plays Rounds Out Everyman Theatre's Season

This spring, award-winning playwright Caleen Sinnette Jennings's Queens Girl in The World and Queens Girl in Africa are presented together for the first time at Everyman Theatre. Directed by Resident Company Member Paige Hernandez, both Helen Hayes Award-winning actresses Dawn Ursula and Erika Rose reprise their roles following the inaugural performances at DC's Women's Voices Festival in 2015 and 2018.

The fifth production of Mosaic Theater Company's third season will be Queens Girl in Africa, written by DC playwright Caleen Sinnette Jennings, staged by up-and- coming director Paige Hernandez, and starring Helen Hayes Award winner Erika Rose. This funny, moving, one-woman show tells the story of spunky New York-born heroine Jaqueline Marie Butler's teenage years in civil-war torn Nigeria as she navigates her new home, her budding activist beliefs, and her first love.

Mosaic Theater presents Caleen Sinnette Jennings' QUEENS GIRL IN AFRICA, the sequel to her 2015 QUEENS GIRL IN THE WORLD. Set in the 1960s, this one-woman show tells the story of a young Jacqueline Marie Butler, who travels to Nigeria after Malcom X is assassinated. QUEENS GIRL IN AFRICA opened January 8th and runs through February 4th.

BWW Interview: Theatre Life with Paige Hernandez

Today's subject Paige Hernandez is currently living her theatre life in a variety of ways. Her production company B-Fly Entertainment is going strong with several projects. She just wrote an opera that premiered at Glimmerglass Opera Festival and is now preparing to direct Queens Girl in Africa for Mosaic Theater Company. The production will run January 4 to February 4, 2018 at Atlas Performing Arts Center, but this Monday at 1:30 PM you can see a free reading of the play as part of Kennedy Center's annual Page-to-Stage Festival.

BWW Review: Dawn Ursula Shines in Theater J's QUEENS GIRL IN THE WORLD

I've been watching Ms. Ursula onstage in the DC area for years, and she's never failed to impress, but her performance here is simply at another level. I am glad she had the opportunity, under Eleanor Holdridge's thoughtful direction, to show us all of what she can do - and in a locally grown, thought-provoking, world premiere play at that.
