Over 100 talented dancers from around the globe will gather in New York next week when the Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition opens Tuesday, June 6th at 11:15 am with an opening ceremony and follows with Rounds - each dancer or couple having the opportunity to dance before the Jury.

Semi-finals were held in Posadas, Argentina, September 2016, and March 2017, at the theater of the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg, Russia., and NYC will see Competition Rounds, followed by the Finals, announcements of Awards, and Gala Performance, an evening of dances by medalists, guests, and presentation of an award to Arthur Mitchell. Joining the students at Kozlova's Dance Conservatory, located in midtown Manhattan, are Kozlova students Nikita Boris and Justin Valentine. The exceptional teen dancers, participating in Kozlova's Competition last June, were awarded scholarships to the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia, selected by Academy director Nikolai Tsiskaridze. Justin will return to St. Petersburg after the performances to continue his one-year scholarship. Nikita, now 16 years old, completed her scholarship and entered the October Vaganova Prix, where she received a special award for artistry and was further honored with an invitation to perform a solo from Giselle on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

The Valentina Kozlova International Ballet Competition, April 26-30 at Symphony Space, NYC, ended in grand style with the announcement of medalists and winners of company contracts and school scholarships, and a Gala Performance with performances by guests Daniel Ulbricht and Erica Pereira of New York City Ballet dancing the Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux (in memory of Violette Verdy, to whom the 2016 competition was dedicated), Washington Ballet's Brooklyn Mack and Ayano Kimura in the pas de deux from Giselle, Act II, and Soo Bin Lee and Seung Hyun Lee dancing the Black Swan pas de deux.
