On February 20, Presidents' Day, Portland Sings! presents RISE UP: Portland Sings for Justice. A host of the Rose City's most talented artists will come together at Artists Repertory Theatre for an evening celebrating America's constitutional rights through song and story as a benefit for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Expect to hear some powerful folk ballads, show tunes and original works during this concert for Justice.
The Lost Treasures Collection, a series of rarely performed musical gems, is back for a seventh season at Lakewood Theatre Company. This year three musicals featuring the theme 'New York, New York' will be presented in a concert/cabaret style. The second offering of the series, Seesaw, will have only three performances: Friday, February 17 at 7:00 PM and Saturday, February 18 at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
If you're looking for that next musical to fall in love with, or you wonder what the big deal is about musical theatre, I very highly recommend you make your way out to Tigard to see FLY BY NIGHT at Broadway Rose. (Protip: Take a date. And tissues.)
The Portland Area Musical Theatre Awards have announced this year's nominations! See the full list below. The ceremony will take place June 6 at 7pm at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts in the Winningstad Theatre.
'The Impossible Dream,' one of the great songs of the American musical theatre, will lift the hearts of audiences with its message of courage and the search for truth as Lakewood Theatre Company concludes its 63rd season on Friday April 29, 2016 with the award-winning musical, Man of La Mancha. The production sponsors for Man of La Mancha are Bill & Barbara Warner & Dr. Fritz Camp.
You remember Heathers, right? The 1988 cult classic movie starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater that gave the high school lexicon such classics as 'What's your damage?' 'That's so very!' and 'F**k me gently with a chainsaw.' (I wasn't allowed to see it, but I had a friend whose mom let us watch anything we wanted.) Well, now it's a musical playing at the Sanctuary at Sandy Plaza courtesy of triangle productions! and Staged! And it's great!

Although that bountiful cornucopia of high praise, John 'I Loved It!' Simon, chose to heap lavish compliments on those he saw as standouts with his usual critical generosity, I'd rather not review the performances showcased by Scott and Barbara Siegel in their second annual concert of new talent, Broadway's Rising Stars. Oh, if I did, words like dazzling, beautiful and heartfelt would certainly come to mind, but I'd rather see last Monday night's show as a celebration of all the new faces without comparing their abilities at this early stage of their careers.
On Monday July 21st, Town Hall continued to present it's series of acclaimed summer concerts with the performance of BROADWAY'S RISING STARS. BROADWAY'S RISING STARS was co-directed by Tony Nominee Emily Skinner and Nightlife Award winning vocalist Scott Coulter. Designed to launch the careers of the next generation of Broadway stars, the show featured 20 of the most outstanding young talents from performing arts schools in New York and across the country. The future stars of the Great White Way were chosen during auditions throughout the spring and come from theatrical institutions including as AMDA, CAP21, Julliard, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Marymount and the New School.
