In the Cabaret world they call it a sound check, in the world of classical music it's an orchestra rehearsal. As Maestro Thomas Crawford raised his hands for the first note of the afternoon rehearsal of the American Classical Orchestra, the orchestra surprised him with some music that was not on his podium. Happy Birthday! I've gotten some tuneful ecards but nothing like Happy Birthday being played to me live, by 50 musicians.

On Tuesday, September 23 at 8:00PM at Alice Tully Hall, the American Classical Orchestra presents its opening night concert of its 30th Anniversary season with music that includes Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with violin soloist Krista Bennion Feeney; Beethoven Symphony No. 8 and Mozart Symphony No. 35 'Haffner'. Krista Bennion Feeney will perform the legendary Mendelssohn Concerto on a historic violin with the same configuration as that of Mendelssohn's concertmaster Ferdinand David.

'The Thomashefskys' were on stage again last night as Michael Tilson Thomas & the New York Philharmonic presented his acclaimed multi-media concert of the Music and Memories of Boris and Bessie Thomashefsky This years gala honored David and Sylvia Steiner as well as Tilson Thomas.
Folksbiene is the sole surviving professional Yiddish Theatre in America and it preserves and adds to the legacy of Yiddish theatre, which flourished on Second Avenue and was domnated by Tilson Thomas's legendary grandparents ‘The Thomashefskys.'

In a tribute to the late Beverly Sills, a legendary soprano and a frequent guest on the Met broadcasts, the company will air her April 19, 1975 performance as Pamira in Rossini's The Siege of Corinth over the Toll Brothers-Metropolitan Opera International Radio Network at 1:30PM EST on February 9, 2008.
