Very rarely do you hear of new ways to invest in, or contribute to, the theater. Something surprised me recently however--on the website for the off-Broadway commercial production of THE STONE WITCH, you can make a tax deductible donation to the Berkshire Theatre Group (BTG) and have the money go to THE STONE WITCH. According to producers Laura Janik Cronin and Darlene Kaplan, the money goes not to increase BTG's share of the profits, but rather to keep the show afloat.
Tony Award -winning Best Actress Cherry Jones stars in the National Touring production of the Tony Award - and Pulitzer Prize-winning play DOUBT, a 'superb new drama' (The New York Times) by John Patrick Shanley. DOUBT, the winner of the 2005 Tony Award® and Pulitzer Prize for Best Play, will complete its triumphant Broadway run this Sunday, July 2. DOUBT, which is written by John Patrick Shanley and directed by Doug Hughes, will have played 525 performances, and 25 previews at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street). When it completes its run, DOUBT will be the fifth longest running play of the past 10 years.

DOUBT has broken the house record at the Walter Kerr Theatre for the eighth time, grossing $603,566 for nine performances for the week of December 26-January 1. DOUBT had previously set a record of $550,109 for the week of July 11-17, 2005.
