PS Classics, the label dedicated to the heritage of Broadway and American popular song, will record the original Broadway cast album of SONDHEIM ON SONDHEIM on June 6th and 7th. The production, presented by Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director), began performances at Studio 54 on March 19th, opened officially on April 22nd and recently announced a two-week extension through June 27th.

Today is the final installment of our three-part discussion of August Wilson's FENCES, currently playing to packed houses every night starring Viola Davis and Denzel Washington on Broadway and recently having scored ten Tony nominations. In this concluding portion of the tapestry of a talk between the creative team of the production we discuss the legacy of Wilson's work, insights into the greater themes of his plays and the plans for the future - perhaps bringing the play to film. The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

The Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) and the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) announced the winners of the 2010 Writers Guild Awards on Saturday, February 20, for outstanding achievement in writing for screen, television, radio, news, promotional, and videogame writing at simultaneous ceremonies at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles and the Hudson Theatre at the Millennium Broadway Hotel in New York City. Susie Essman of 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' hosted the East Coast ceremony while Seth MacFarlane 'Family Guy' was the host for the West Coast show.

The House Theatre of Chicago invites Chicagoans to be captivated by fairy tale, witches, myth and magic with its newest production ROSE AND THE RIME, written by the creative team Chris Mathews, Jake Minton and Nathan Allen. The original Midwestern fairy tale will play the Chopin Theatre (1543 W. Division St.) February 19 to April 11, 2009. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 30, 2009 at 10 a.m. The tiny Michigan town of Radio Falls has been trapped in perpetual winter for a generation. Snow and ice coat every tree branch and telephone wire, and the constant blizzard surrounding the town means there's no way in or out. The last moment of heated passion brought the town its only remaining youth: a girl named Rose. It is up to her to save Radio Falls from the vicious curse of the Rime Witch. But when she succeeds, Radio Falls discovers the witch's magic coin has two sides... ROSE AND THE RIME is a modern version of The House's favorite myth - a reminder that anything powerful enough to fulfill your dreams is powerful enough to destroy them.
