Based on the 1938 French film La Femme du Boulanger, that may be the main reason that the show is rarely performed. Now onstage at Actors co-op, Baker's Wife is mounted scrumptiously with terrific direction from Richard Israel and a superlatively cast ensemble.

The Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Opera Guild is pleased to announce that Thomas M. Martin, current Director of Finance and Administration, has been named Managing Director, effective July 1st. Martin will succeed Stewart Pearce, who will retire after five years of service in that capacity, and thirty nine years with the Metropolitan Opera.
