It was an historic night for so many reasons and although yesterday was spent in BroadwayWorld 'after-glow and recovery' we rushed out the behind the scenes photos, taken by two photographers who were with us since the beginning - Linda Lenzi and Walter McBride. Monday night, for two astonishing SOLD OUT performances, Joe's Pub became the backdrop for BroadwayWorld.com's 10th Anniversary celebration. The show conceived by Robert Diamond and Richard Jay-Alexander boasted talent from Broadway and beyond.
Just last night, BroadwayWorld kicked off our 10th Anniversary concert series with not one, but two triumphant performances of BROADWAYWORLD.COM VISITS OZ at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater. The cast not only donated their time and talent to this amazing double-header event, but also took the time to sign posters for sale to raise additional funds for Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS. It's Tony Awards Season again, and I've been pondering the things about theatre that I appreciate the most. Surely, score and libretto and scenery and (of course) acting. But what about the ensembles, the special effects, the fight scenes, and the on-stage chemistry of so many sexy couples? Sure, the Tonys can't cover EVERYTHING. But the shows deserve accolades for more than just the traditional Tony honors. So I present to you my 2011 Alternative Awards -- aka Tony categories that SHOULD exist -- for the 2010-11 Broadway Season.
