FIAF Presents Sami Frey in Beckett's PREMIER AMOUR, 4/9 & 4/10

The French Institute Alliance Française (FIAF), New York's premiere French cultural center, will welcome esteemed French actor and comedian Sami Frey in Samuel Beckett's acclaimed work, Premier Amour. On April 9 and 10, Frey will inhabit Beckett's poetry and wit for two nights only of special performances.
Shakespeare Theatre Co. to Feature Zimmerman, Page et al. in 2010/11 Season

Shakespeare Theatre Company Artistic Director Michael Kahn, praised by The Baltimore Sun for turning the Shakespeare Theatre Company 'into the closest thing this country has to Britain's Royal Shakespeare Company,' announces the Company's 2010-2011 season. The lineup includes Shakespeare's All's Well That Ends Well, Cymbeline (a debut performance of this Shakespeare play on STC's stages) and The Merchant of Venice. The season continues with a recent adaptation by Tom Stoppard of Luigi Pirandello's Enrico IV, Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband and the Leonard Bernstein musically adapted version of Voltaire's Candide, directed by Mary Zimmerman in a co-production with the Goodman Theatre.

Richard Eyre's production of The Last Cigarette, adapted by Hugh Whitemore and Simon Gray from Gray's critically acclaimed The Smoking Diaries, is to transfer to the West End having previously opened the 2009 Season at the Chichester Festival Theatre. Starring Felicity Kendal, Nicholas le Prevost and Jasper Britton, who all perform as Simon Gray, The Last Cigarette will run at Trafalgar Studios from 21 April - 1 August, with opening night 28 April 2009. Designs are by Rob Howell with lighting and projection by John Driscoll and music by George Fenton.

Performances of 'Six Characters' Cancelled After McDiarmid Falls Ill

What's on Stage is reporting that actor Ian McDiarmid has fallen unexpectedly ill during curtain call of Monday's opening press performance of 'Six Characters in Search of an Author.' As a result, the Tuesday evening performance was cancelled as was tomorrow's matinee performance. Until further notice Stephen Crane will be taking over McDiarmid's role of the Father.

ACT Announces New Plays For 'First Look' Series

Two groundbreaking new works directed by leading theater artists will take the stage at American Conservatory Theater's First Look New Plays Festival, running April 11 through April 26 at Zeum Theater. The plays include The Road Weeps, The Well Runs Dry, a deeply poetic new play by Marcus Gardley, and the newest version of Lillian Groag's theatrical adaptation of renowned poet Christopher Logue's War Music, a contemporary retelling of Homer's Iliad. Each play will receive two script-in-hand workshop performances following an intense week of work by the many artists engaged.
