Beans, Rice & Gumbo: Facts, Fictions and Frictions of Black History narrates the history of blacks from the pre-slavery era through the present day. This January, Oran Etkin's Timbalooloo is celebrating the opening of its first flagship class location designed especially for young children and their families: Timbalooloo SoHo. To celebrate the launch, internationally acclaimed clarinetist, composer and educator Etkin will host a grand opening concert for Timbalooloo SoHo at City Winery today, January 13 followed by a parade from the venue to Timbalooloo's new Soho space for a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The concert features Etkin's award winning jazz quintet and his instrument friends Clara Net (his clarinet) and her mother Big Mama Tuba and offers a fun interactive introduction to the Timbalooloo Method, in which all the instruments come to life and talk through their music.
Acclaimed Jazz-man Steve Sedergreen, Australian operatic soprano Antoinette Halloran and musical theatre star Melissa Langton are among the all-star line-up of performers in Arts Centre Melbourne's 2018 High Tea Live series. Previously known as Jazz High Tea, High Tea Live will see the musical program expand beyond jazz, including classical, cabaret, opera and Broadway as well as special sessions for families. The beloved Arts Centre Melbourne tradition, features a different act on the first Sunday of every month from March until December. The full program will be announced in April.

He holds tenure with the BCJO and has performed with artist to include the David Murray Baltimore Big Band, Frankie Ruiz, Todd Marcus Jazz Orchestra, the Whitt Williams Big Band, The Four Tops, The Impressions, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, and others. He studied with Alex Norris, Tim Murphy, Gary Thomas, Michael Formanek, Paul Bollenback, Russell Thomas, Robert Blaine, and Darcie Bishop.
