Quanah is the musical journey of Comanche chief Quanah Parker and his mother, Cynthia Ann Parker, who was kidnapped as a girl and raised by the Comanches as one of their own. It is about Christians, Comanches and Texas Rangers; killing and heartbreak and heroes; and how Quanah came to lead his people from the prairie to The White Man's Road.

Manhattan School of Music will be paying homage to Stephen Sondheim on Monday, January 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the School's John C. Borden Auditorium, with a special musical tribute created by Lonny Price, Beautiful Girls. The evening will showcase a compilation of Sondheim songs that explore a women's journey through life reflected by his music.

The off-Broadway staple Altar Boyz, played its final performance on January 10, 2010 at its home, New World Stages after playing 2032 performances. It is the 9th longest running off-Broadway musical in history.

SDC Ratifies Contracts and Names New Board

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC) has announced that its membership ratified several contracts at the union's annual membership meeting held this past month. Attended by over 75 directors and choreographers and presided over by Executive Board President Karen Azenberg and Executive Director Laura Penn, the meeting also included the announcement of executive board election results and the presentation of the Joe A. Callaway Awards.

The New York Philharmonic will present SONDHEIM: The Birthday Concert on March 15 and Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. This celebration of the 80th birthday of the great Broadway and film composer/lyricist will include his most enduring orchestral music and songs - performed, in some cases, by the stars of the original Broadway cast productions - in addition to rarely-heard material. Joining the celebration will be (in alphabetical order) Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, and others to be announced, including surprise guests. Paul Gemignani, Mr. Sondheim's longtime collaborator, will conduct the New York Philharmonic; Lonny Price is the director; and Mr. Price and Matt Cowart are the producers.

Cape Rep Theatre announces the final addition to the 2009 Indoor Theatre Season. A Class Act, the Broadway musical features music and lyrics by Edward Kleban and book by Linda Kline and Lonny Price. A Class Act will open September 17 and run for 5 weeks through October 18. Performances will take place Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm with Sunday matinees at 2pm.
