La Mirada & McCoy Rigby Presents Disney's NEWSIES

LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & McCOY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT invite you to 'Seize the Day' as they present the fifth and final show of its 2017-2018 season (and the 40thanniversary of the iconic theatre) with Disney's NEWSIES, book by Harvey Fierstein, music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, musical direction by Brent Crayon and directed and choreographed by Richard J. Hinds. NEWSIES will preview on Friday, June 1, 2018 (with a press opening on Saturday, June 2 at 8pm) and runs through Sunday, June 24, 2018 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.

Salty Brine Announces Production Of Cabaret-Theater Hybrid I'M A LOT LIKE YOU

Salty Brine announces a new cabaret-theater hybrid production of I'm A Lot Like You as the latest installment in his series, The Living Record Collection. I'm A Lot Like You is inspired by Weezer's alternative rock album, Pinkerton, and Puccini's iconic opera, Madame Butterfly. The show will perform at Pangea (178 2nd Avenue) on May 23, 30 and June 6, 13, 20, 27. Doors will open at 6:00pm with performances beginning at 7:00pm.

The Theatre World Awards Board of Directors, Dale Badway, President, have announced, today, the 74th Annual Theatre World Awards Ceremony will take place at Circle in the Square. Theatre World Award Alum Victor Garber (Hello, Dolly!) will receive the 6th Annual John Willis Award for Lifetime Achievement In The Theatre, celebrating his 46th year on the Broadway stage.

Bucks County Playhouse Opens Season With AN ACT OF GOD

Directed by Tracy Brigden, the comedy runs at Bucks County Playhouse May 18 - June 16. The official opening night performance is Saturday, May 19 at 7:30 pm. Media Citadel Theatre Launches 2018/19 BTS Series

The Citadel Theatre's Artistic Director, Daryl Cloran, and Executive Director, Chantell Ghosh, announced today the Beyond The Stage (BTS) Series line-up for the 2018/19 Season. This year's series will include six outstanding presentations that push the boundaries of traditional theatre through experimentation; from shows that tell stories in song to a production in which the actor is handed the script for the first time when he or she steps on the stage. BTS even includes a project that takes place everywhere in the Citadel except the theatres. BTS 2018/19 features celebrated international artists, local celebrities, exciting new work and the return of Made In Italy (back by popular demand!).

'Not So Silent Cinema' Presents Charlie Chaplin Shorts At Bucks County Playhouse

The comic genius of Charlie Chaplin will be on full display as Philadelphia-based "Not So Silent Cinema" provides live accompaniment to three Chaplin shorts in a special one-performance only event at Bucks County Playhouse, Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. The presentation is part of the Playhouse's Visiting Artist Series.

Lou Volpe, the retired theatre education pioneer was recently inducted into the prestigious Bucks County Playhouse Hall of Fame, following such honorees as Angela Lansbury, Oscar Hammerstein and Shirley Jones. A formal ceremony was held on April 14 at the historic playhouse. Volpe, whose career is the inspiration behind "Rise," the new TV series on NBC, was heralded for his life's work as a high school drama teacher at Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown, PA. During his tenure there, he transformed this Bucks County community with the magic of theater.

The music of Composer/Lyricist John Bucchino (Broadway's A CATERED AFFAIR and Off-Broadway's IT'S ONLY LIFE and LAVENDER GIRL (part of Hal Prince's 3hree) will be front and center in a very special Master Class presented by California Desert Chorale on Saturday, April 1 from 1-4:30 pm on the College Of The Desert campus in Palm Desert. The Master Class is open to the public and is free of charge. Among John Bucchino's honors are two Drama Desk nominations, The Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award, The ASCAP Foundation Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award, The Jonathan Larson Award, The Kleban Award, The Los Angeles Ovation Award (for the revue IT'S ONLY LIFE), The DVD Premiere Award (for the song 'Better Than I'), and the first annual Fred Ebb Award.

The Friars archives and Wikipedia have finally been corrected. Nineteen Eighty Eight was a watershed year for women. They gained membership to numerous private men's clubs that heretofore were off limits to women. The Friars, being one of the more famous of the bunch had an article heralding the event written by a less than factual reporter for The New York Times. The paper of record, in an early forerunner of fake news only listed the first 7 women and overlooked number 8...Jamie deRoy who was in that initial group, along with Liza Minnelli, Joan Rivers, Brooke Shields, and other prominent female entertainment figures was not mentioned.
